Today I started to process of making a decision of what mini excavator to purchase. Took a trip to NH mainly to look at the Yanmar 35-5 but along the way stopped into Bobcat of NH and a Mustang dealer. I snapped pictures of the Yanmar didn't spend too much time looking at the others.

The Yanmar was a nice machine powerful, nice set-up, the quick attach is nice but I won't use it that much for it to be a big deal. Thumb included was nice, track design was something I had never seen. It is pretty much the same as the 35D I had just some difference. I didn't like the AC unit on the side of the cab. Creates a blind spot and I could see myself ripping it off or denting it on a tree limb and that machine can't be ordered without it. 0% for 60 months was nice but they wouldn't budge off of $44,900.

Mustang I didn't like and there price was high for the machine/options and Bobcat, well I don't even think I have to go there and explain that one but I have never been impressed with their mini's.

Them tracks sure are different. And if I was goin for a cab machine no way could it have the A/C hanging out like that, it would get knocked off in a heart beat...

That's a horrible design with that ac unit like that.

I concur, I saw a case at the NC green show and it's ac was mounted similarly.

Anybody got the downlow on that track set up? You would think everything would wear funny the way its designed..

Another thing I just noticed, the framing that attaches the blade to the frame is really thin and weak looking compared to Bobcat, CAT and IHI..

it is a VIO 35-5 the 2 piece door was an aweful design as well

I down low is that they set it like that (according to the sale pitch) to make it more stable when working along the side. I don't think it will wear differently the rollers are just set-up different.

Hmm, kind of makes sense, not sure how much of a difference that would really make, but I think that still might wear the track different because of the weight distribution, who knows?

Tell them to pound sand on $44K for that Yanmar, holy crap! My buddy bought a Vio55-5 2 years ago for $52K out the door with thumb. They are decent machines, there's no doubt about that, but for $44K you could buy a Cat or a Deere.

Oh yeah, that track design is supposed to increase stability without increasing the width of the machine, so I was told.

I wish I could buy a cat for 44k Milton Cat wants 56k for a 303.5 without thumb and 20" bucket.
I am going to check on the 35D tomorrow I won't be surprised when the price is over 50K. I tried to get the guy down to 40K on the yanmar but wouldn't budge.

Good lord, sounds like they are mighty proud of them machines. A 303.5 no cab with thumb, coupler, and bucket is $40K out here.

I had a conversation today with my CASE salesman and it might shed some light on whats going on. When the dealer is offering zero percent it is costing the OEM big time to get that rate. Due to the cost of the finiancing there is no room to come off the machine. So much for the bank bailout money.

That said the price is high for a 35 sized machine.

You may want to check out the Kobelco mini or the branded Kobelco's (CASE and NH). I was checking the specs and they have been making some breakout upgrades. These machines are actually specing higher than TK on breakout both arm and bucket on the 50 and 35 sized machines. They have made some changes to the boom swing it looks like. IHI is another good excavator, dealer support might be limited but the machines are great and I had excellent support direct from the factory in KY.

Our yanmar Vio 55 was just about 50k with two buckets and a hydro thumb. no cab of course. This was only a year ago.

With prices like that, there is more value in a low hour, used unit. Find someone dying to unload the same machine for around $30K with only a couple hundred hours.

Only deals I have seen on new equipment locally is Takeuchi. There's a dealer here in WA that has one TL130 left and it's going for $30K I believe, that's a screaming deal.

Grab a new Deere 35D and never look back, much better cab design over the C series for the big "assed" crowd like myself, bigger door and wider controls.

You should easily be able to by a Deere 35D with cab and thumb and a couple of buckets for that and get 0% for 42 mo or 4.9% for 60 mo. Especialy if the dealer had sitting on the lot before November 1.

The 0% finacing has always cost the manufacturer money.

Look at Komatsu as well.
They have a long stick PC 35 that is a great machine.

Also Kubota is usually cheaper than the competitors.

Good to hear I had a 35D last year got rid of it because of hours and wanted to go new and to have an enclosed cab. Having the thumb control on the joystick is perfect never liked it on the floor. I always liked the 35D and I liked that long stick option, it came in handy on a small pond I dredged in the fall.
Off to more demos today, Kubota, Deere and anything else I find anlong the way.

Thats true for most any loans now. The banks are being handed money practically interest free from the feds and then either won't loan it or loan it at high interest...........which is why the economy will continue it's downhill slide. Until they put real money in the hands of consumers things won't turn around. The stimulus package is just a band aid.........standby for stimulus part two (I give them about 6 months). Excuse the tangent!:walking:
