Well? How is it? So far does it look like its headed where ya wanted it?
For us, the work is there, but everybodies money is tight right now so nobody is moving real fast, thats one reason that clearing job hasnt been moved on yet, same with 2 pools..

It's like someone threw a switch since the end of last year!

A switch that does nothing...

Still pluggin along trying to scrape by.

I had one of my guys change the fuel filters, drain off the HFCM, and change the oil in my 6 liter today.

It's still saying that I have water in the fuel. Hopefully this doesn't end up in an expensive trip to the stealership.

I set all my letters out to my customers on Thursday and Friday of last week. I have heard from a few people. Only time will tell right now.

Its slow, looked at probably 15 jobs so far this month. still waiting on the signoff on some papers before we start a pretty good size job, should be about 3 solid weeks of playing in the mud. Atleast some of the machines are moving. I think I've used the bulldozer about 15 hours this year:dizzy:

Well atleast you'll be able to say you've got work..

I dont know if its because of winter or what but it seems people on here dont seem to be hurting for work as bad, maybe its actually because of the cold or they've actually got work and I've noticed we havent got any 3 page long GR posts lately...

Slow but steady. Had more work the last two months than I did in November. December, January, and so far February have been kind of steady. Off today, booked through next week with more work on the horizon but nothing like it was 2 years ago or even early last year. Keep praying for a resolution to the credit crunch and a restart of the housing market.

Junior, it's a good time for you to park your butt in the classroom and soak up as much as you can so that when you are out in the real world, you show a little education and knowledge. What I wouldn't do to go back in time and pay attention in class instead of watching the dredge machines dig ponds all day! Dang, I miss watching those things work!

The busiest I have ever been this time of the year.
I have about 2 months worth of work booked.
I will lose 3 or 4 more good jobs because I do not have time to do them.
All septic work.

My dad will have a busy season, although it won't be as busy as he had originally planned. He backed out of 5 months of commercial work because they moved the deadline up to unreasonable measures. The establishment wants 5-6 months of work completed by the end of May and the season doesn't start for him until April, typically, depending on weather. Fairly unreasonable, there just isn't any way to ram 6 months of work into maybe 2 months time with his current crew and equipment. Only way to do it is to have (2) more crews of 6 guys and at least another pair of skid steer and mini ex, the logistics of ramping up for that kind of work is staggering. Having to train 15 more employees for 2 months of work only to lay them off after that makes zero sense, plus quality control gets to be an issue at some point when you start stretching that many guys out and that's not how dad operates. So he bowed out, unless things change and the timeline becomes reasonable, that was a good chunk of business he won't have this season. However, there's one builder he will be working for that is currently building 4 houses. I know, 4 houses, one builder, in times like these, it's WILD. Nobody is building anything except this guy, he's a mover and a shaker building custom homes. So my dad should be alright, he's not worried about it.

I myself am currently experiencing slow times on the grooming crew, I've been reduced to about 25-30 hours a week, the lack of attendance is staggering. Just holding out for another couple months until the big dirt show gets rolling. I have a job with the company I worked for last year if I so choose but if the hall calls me for a dispatch first, that's where I'll be going.

9 barn sites, dairy, chicken and turkey barns, lots of poopy pits, lots of utilities, land leveling, 5 silo's to topple down, 2 barns to demolish and a partridge in a pear tree.

We aren't called the Triple B busy bee's for nothing around here.

it's still winter wonderland around here.......it breaks loose typically end of april or may. bid one rock wall today, have one koi pond to build and am too scared to call my contractor buddy to see if he is still on target to build 1,500 homes up north a bit.......and if he is gonna pull the trigger, i have been promised 700.........just don't wanna make the call and hear "no", so i don't and that still gives me hope.......meanwhile trying to buy a dump truck and larger hoe.....i thought i had my color scheme down until i read a previous thread and say some "hot pink".......

My trucking work is non existant. As for the excavation contractors they are one step away from filing bankruptsy protection. The forestry contractors really haven't worked since Nov 2008. For the excavation contractors this slow down is worse than they seen in the 1980s. The nail pounders are also un-employeed. We will have to see what happens later in the spring you can pretty much say January was a flop February isn't to far behind if things don't improve some of these contractors will just have to pull the plug and claim bankruptsy not good.

Oh well nothing you can do if you have to go bankrupt you go bankrupt the work is next to nothing right now and nothing is showing signs of improving.

AWJ,

Do you have a pump truck for the turds? Or does someone else do the nasty work and you install more field lines?

I have someone else do the pumping.
Although I may think about getting into that eventually.
I do repairs and installation mostly.

Another reason I am slowing this whole thing down, my grades have actually went up since everything shut down, thats one reason my first and second semester grades suffered because we were working on houses till 11 or later every night to get them ready for inspection...

Slow, but optimistic. There are some signs of life here, but nothing like it used to be. We have had a couple of calls trickle in, but up here in cold/snow country, we don't normally do that much now anyway. Ask me after our home show the first week of April. The foot traffic there will tell the whole STORY of what our season will be like.

I am still trying to figure out what the new house market is goin to do, it got hit hard, real hard here. 2 builders that I know personally went under, 1 is on his way slowly but surely, and another started a huge development at the wrong time, he's got houses sitting everywhere, some that have already had 2 B-days..

Somewhat good here. I am stilll working on the county contract, while the other contractor has stoped. I do ALL the county now so no complaints there. It has slowed, but mostly because its winter. I have had some calls this week for cleanups in other parts of the cities and another county for violations. A large sod install(70,000+ square feet) I bid. ITs definatly slow, but what I am finding is that im still working, and others are not and going under. I just hope I can outlast them and still be around when its all said and done. Whomever lives through this should be king when it picks back up.
