Let me preface by saying I don't smoke and never have.

Now to the point at hand.

My CAT 236B has had an employee light up a cigarette inside it.

Previously the machine was never smoked in. The employee was given a stern speaking with.

He's my adopt-a-redneck so he had the heat on while he was smoking and the stink got into the ducting.

How do I de-stink it? I miss my non-smoke stinking skid.

Hang a couple Christmas trees from the mirrors :laugh::laugh:

Don't worry, my buddy spilt his dip cup in my skid steer, it smelled like wintergreen dip for a couple months. I took the fire hose and washed the machine out, that did the trick.

BTW did you steal that adopt a redneck from me???....!!!

I had a adopt a Yankee for about 2 years, then he moved to Florida. his last words were

Damn rednecks:laugh:

Find a roadkilled dog that has been in 85 degree sun for about a week. place him in the cab over night. that should do it.

Chris: Kitty CATs don't like water inside them like the Takkies do.

Treemow: Although that would distract from the cigarette smell the idea is to make it smell BETTER.

I got it now. Kinda partial to cigarettes. I quit for 2 years and boy do I know what you mean, they stink like sh*t.

When I had my Bobcat a buddy of mine ran it for less than an hour while he was smoking, and it smelled like sh!t. He had the windows open a little, just to ash. I left the windows open and door whenever I could and it finally went away, but I bet I smelled a trace of it for a month.

I did hang some little trees in it. You might try some Febreeze. They have different sprays for different smells. Maybe they have one for smoke.

Yea. He got it all sucked into the vent system too. I was LESS than happy...

I blew out the cab air filter as best as I could with an air gun, but it still stinks.

Ok.........you guys will love me for this. Gets rid of all kinds of stink. They use it in hospitals to remove odors and it does so almost instantly. Comes in a spray can with a white body and blue lettering. It is called "Ozium". It is the best stuff out there bar none for getting rid of any kind of smell.

That's easy, when I was younger and still living at home, I smoked in my room. Having parents that were both non smokers, I could be smelled just walking in the house because my mom had a nose like a bloodhound...anyway, I had a trick that worked like a charm :

1.) You will need 3 clothes dryer sheets and 1 paper towel roll (just the roll, not the paper).

2.) crunch up the dryer sheets and insert into the towel roll, when smoking just simply
exhale into the roll....works w/ all kinds of smoke ;) and smells like fresh laundry!!

How can you beat that, win/win :clapping:

While that may work to prevent stink we are talking about a post-stink cleansing.

Thanks, Rockset. I was hoping someone knew about a product like that.

I also have an aerosol product that I use, it's called "Smoke Eliminator" made by Zep commercial. It chemically neutralizes odors, and has a long lasting pleasant fragrance...love the stuff.

WD-40 the hell out of the inner and outer cab filters, wash them (they are washable) dry them and spray a light spritz of WD-40 again, I did that once to my Cat when I smelled like money (poopies) for a week.

Thanks for the information, guys!

Ron I was unaware the filter was washable. I'll get on that because it still does have a slight tinge of smoke smell to it.

I've saved hundreds of dollars on washing mine, Bobcat filters always costed me over $40 a month, and I was buying 2 pairs in the Summer months.
Just make sure you either air dry them or use a hair drier to quick dry them before re-installing them (with the arrows in the right direction) or they get mouldy.
I just use hot water and dish detergent and a tooth brush to work the soap into the filter and rinse.

Buy a Takeuchi?:waving:

Use the chemical neutralizers like where mentioned and also take some apples and cut them up and place in a plate and leave in the machine for a few days.

Auto parts stores sell air conditioner duct cleaners. That, or go to a pet store for an enzymatic odor remover. Spraying either into the fresh air intake while running should help some.

Get in the cab of that skid, close the door and light up a couple left handed cigs. That should over ride the regular cig smoke smell.

Well I plan on letting my adopt-a-redneck do all the cleaning since he did all the stinking.

Whatever takes the longest sounds best since he's going to be doing it on HIS time.

Had the same thing happened to me ,first it was my brother driving my Peterbilt when I find out about it he was doing it for about a month ,man that got me really piss ,it took about a month using Ozium every time I had a chance but really load it at night till it was rid of every little bit of smell ,then it was my skid steer a friend wanted to try it while loading the truck ,when I realized he had already smoked half of a cigarette that was a lot quicker to clean out again with Ozium ,the best product I've ever used.

To get rid of the ciggarette smell you have to remove all the nicotene residue. So you will have to wash everything on the inside if your white paper towel turns yellow your removing the nicotene.

Using sprays to cover up the smell never helps you have to remove the source of the smell.

I would take your machine to a place that cleans up RVs they know how to clean up and get rid of smells before they sell a used RV.

I'd do that, GR. However buddy-boy is the one who is going to be cleaning the machine. I'm sure as hell not paying for them to clean a machine when I told him 5 times to not even THINK of a smoke when he was in that CAT.

It's been sitting in the shop since yesterday with all the doors and windows opened up so hopefully that will help at least a little.

I'm going to be out and about tomorrow so I'll see if Wallgreens has some Ozium.

You want something that is charcoal/carbon it absorbs ordors. We have Ozium at work and it doesn't do much at all.

Ozium is what the fire dept use down here when there is a light fire to absorb the smoke smell I've used it and it works wonder ,it's not an air freshener.

I had a similar issue with a smoke bomb in my CAT. CAT smoke bombed my machine often so we could see where the leaks in the AC system were. I would suggest replacing the recirculating filter, leaving the windows and door open, and use a stick up air freshener after that. It will stop lingering soon enough but I'm with ya, it stinks if you aren't used to it!

I love to smoke in my truck. I just don't like the stink later and the wife jumps my s***. She bought this little can of smoke away at wal-mart that works awesome. It's a little plastic container that is about the size of a snuff can you just open it up and it absorbs all of the smoke smell. Wife said that she couldn't smell any more smoke about an hour after she put it in the truck. She gets em in the automotive section.

It always amazes me that anyone would enjoy smoking. I got two bowling lanes/pinspotters to install at home in 1998 and the cigarette smell was overpowering when I put them in my storage room. The dust on the machines and lanes was so irritating I would sneeze uncontrollably and frequently. Tried various smoke removal methods but the horrible scent kept coming back. Finally, after more than 10 years storage the smell is undetectable. On a friend's used truck we had to disassemble the evaporator case as the cigarette smell got in there and was resident in the dust and scum inside. One time I had a car from an old man who died of lung cancer. It was so bad that I sprayed the interior with a fire extinguisher and vacuumed it up a week later. That got rid of most of the bad smell.

Well he hasn't gotten on it yet since he's been busy keeping his truck running.

His Dodge 1500 just won't stay running for him. Yesterday when I was at the yard he called and asked if he could use the shop to change his water pump. I don't want to lend him one of my trucks and I don't want to play school bus to working on his truck takes priority.

I sold the GMC a few months ago.

I already gave him 2 Fords to drive. Here is what he did to the first one.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l290/maj_massacre/Picture028.jpg

He wrapped the second one around a tree and the towing company wanted more for the recovery than the truck was worth in perfect condition so I told em they could have it.
