Working on my truck been doing the brakes. Last week I did the front changed the brake rotors and pads with the highest grade Raybestos makes.

The front brake pads had lots of meat but they were glazed over like a honey glazed donut. The front rotors were getting thin so I replaced them too. Took me all friggin day to do the job the caliper mount bolts are lock tite'ed and of course all I have is a electric impact wrench the frigging air compressor died on me early 2008 and I don't have the money to replace it. A electric impact is no replacement for a 1/2 drive pneumatic.

Anyhow got the front brakes changed what a difference I hummed and hawwed about doing the rear brakes. F-450s have the exact same brake pads on the back and the last brake inspection I did before the snow started the rear brakes were fine.

Decided screw it I'am doing the rear brakes spent the 129 dollars on another set of brake pads for the rear. Pulled the rear brakes apart and it was holy crap. I guess over the winter with the balast I had on the truck I threw a lining on one of the brake pads. It was steel on steel :dizzy:

Got the rear brakes finished on wednesday what a difference I have braking power again if I stomp on the brake pedal I have to wear the seat belt. It cost me 600 dollars for the 4 brakes I saved atleast 400 dollars doing the brakes myself shop rate in most shops is 70-90 dollars per hour.

Here is my rant why in the beeping **** would somebody put the cheap brake pads on a 1.5 ton truck. The brake pads I took off where the lower grade pads they were so glazed you could rub your fingers over the surface and it was smooth as glass. It should be illegal to use anything but premium semi metalic or ceramic brake pads on any truck with a gvw of 15,000lbs or heavier.

It does feel good to do some wrench pulling haven't done much in 2 years you use muscles that you haven't used in a while. I'am fussy when it comes to doing brakes I do them myself because I'am such a fuss pot. I should have changed the rear rotors they are still within spec but I don't have the 400 dollars for the pair.

Anybody that runs a F-450-550 or 4500-5500 I do recommend the new Advanced Technology Brake pads from Raybestos. They are some pretty aggressive brake pads I made the mistake of rubbing my thumb over the lining I was picking out metal slivers out of my thumb

One of my mechanic buddies put the same Raybestos pads on his OBS Ford dually he said they make a big difference he wishes they had the same lining for brake shoes.

Sure glad I get a discount at the parts store regular list price on the brake pads I used was 140.00 dollars

GR did the back rotor get much damage from the steel against steel?

Since money is short sounds like hopefully you got it in time before to much damage. The new pad will wear into the bad spots, but usually will be something to watch on down the road.

On my old,old Dodge i went with the pads you said and they have lasted good ,even tho the rotors was scratched pretty bad.

If the rotor still has enough meat you can turn them at least once.Sure you already know that, but Junior might not:confused:

Anyway glad to hear you have brakes(not breaks) now.Ron will be glad you do also:laugh:
Good post, good job:usflag:

The reason i included you was that thought you might want to learn something if unless you already know, but if not ?*trucewhiteflag*

The brake rotor can be taking off if rotor is damaged then turned down smooth in a lathe and them replaced, with new pads.Saves on cost of new at least once,if the rotor hasn't already been turn once.

So when you get(if) the old Bronco you learn how to fix the brake.

Sorry if you having a bad day :waving::usflag:

Oh, okay, I get what your saying now, I thought you were referencing what GR said in my "greasing trailers axles" thread..

Sorry if that came across rude, I didnt mean to be, I was saying it in a sarcastic manner. I forget you cant get sarcasm through a computer sometimes.. :hammerhead:

Thankfully I caught it in time the drivers rear rotor had some grooves in them but it should work themselves out. The next brake pad change I will probably change both rotors. I have a feeling I won't be changing the rear pads again in the time I own the truck. When I haul loads I try not to get the brakes hot. The front brakes do close to 70% of the stopping power.

Anyhow if your looking for a good brake pad the Raybestos Advance Technology seems to be a good pad. Haven't had a load on the truck yet to test them out.
