Axle over springs or springs over axle?

Recently purchased a used open trailer, needed a little work so we installed new set of leaf springs and a new axle.

Looking for advice: should we have the axle sitting on the springs? Or should we have the springs over the axle?

The old axle was sitting below the springs, but we went to a local trailer shop and they told us to switch it.

It's a small trailer 5X12 with about 6 inches of clearance.

I just commented on a similar thread. I would say go under unless you need alot of height. The arch of your springs are probably 6-7" and your height to your hub is probably 6". With the springs under you'll probably have your deck at 8-9" which is normal or up around 15" with your springs above. I think your springs will handle more weight with them above, but who knows what that does to the axle. I'd say put them under.
