connecting rod play????

how much ,if any play should there be , side to side i can move the rod on the crank about 1/8-1/4 " its a stihl 400 backpack blower that was noisey/shacky when idling

Thats not bad for side to side. You should not be able to twist it much, and it should have 0 up and down. Do the same for the wrist pin. The wrist pin is where you noise is most likely coming from. What do you plan to do if you find it, and you may not. It's old
