Just had mine done~~Lots of horror stories about a dot guy in Wrentham that's writing big tickets to landscapers~~rumored $7700 last week to a guy coming out of Norfolk power...
I paid $129 to have my six month old trailer "inspected" as well as my six month old truck...truck is not commercial plate so was "only" $29...wd have been another $129 if commercial plate.
There was nothing to it~~checked my lights and chains etc..
I asked if they had the rules for gas containers, types of tie downs etc thay did not; wasn't their area.
This is a great stimulus program; rob from the landscaper and give to the inspection program.

I only paid $79.00 for my trailer sticker, $29.00 for the sticker and $ 50.00 for labor to do the inspection.

Ive been driving a one ton, and a small trailer.

so I need DOT #s now? I read something about needing an alarm that notifies operator when dump bed is raised?

could someone list more specifics for this new inspection. I read the mass.gov pdf, but it does not explain anything about dot #'s etc.

do i need a medical card if I am driving a one ton (registration says 11000gvw) and a 5x8 single axel trailer?

I think patrick is pushing to squeez every dollar he can out of the little guy. when you get the inapection sticker you must have a medical card, fire extinguisher, safty kit anf chalk blocks even if is a 350 pick up . dot numbers i don't think they are required although my inspection guy says it is not incorperated in your inspection sticker. ??

a buddy of mine told me about it about a month ago. I put over $1000.00 in tires, lights, leaf springs, you name it. Sticker cost $58.00 My understanding is any trailer being pulled by a commercial vehicle (regardless of weight) has to be inspected. I'm telling any one I see.

Any trailer 3000lbs and above has to be inspected.

Correct ANY trailer over 3000 needs inspection, however ANY commercial trailer also need a inspection even if it is under 3000.

As far as i know, any place that inspects commercial vehicles such as skid steers, backhoes etc... I found a guy in Pembroke, Ma who was referred to me by a friend. Make sure your trailer is in perfect condition. It sucks, good luck

so im headed to an occupational health center for a medical card on monday. getting the alarm for the dump bed (when its raised it makes the back up alarm go off) which i guess you also need.

do i need those safety triangles if i have an amber light bar? anything else i might have missed?

That alarm drove me nuts. I have an 05 Chevy Dump, (didn't come with an alarm, had to get one installed) Right after I got my sticker, I disconnected it.)
Truck needs safety triangles and chock blocks. Don't forget and leave them on your trailer *(like i did) If you're getting the trailer inspected, just have them on there, just in case. If the the tires suck you won't pass. Any lights out , you won't pass. They'll check leaf springs, and anything else under there. Go with the trailer empty, and if they ask you what you haul, just say lawn mowers. If you tell them skid steer, and you're not rated for it, you'll fail. Good luck

You need a fire extinguisher, mounted with in reach of the drivers seat.

I never heard of a commerical trailer under 3000LB. Trailers 3000 lb and above have to have brakes.

That's a good point. The guy doing the inspection asked me twice what i was hauling, and maybe i assumed he would fail me if I'd given him the wrong answer. This is the first year for us being regulated for our trailers, so it's all new to us.

I just went to my inspection station. I have a 6x12 single axle pulled by a 8000gvw f250. Trailer gvw listed is 3000 but is actually 2990. He told me that I'm fine, as he checked with his service rep.....

My trailer is inspected. got it done early to beat the rush. had it done in March. cost $29. passed. its a 16' dual axle.

Gotta have 2 chock blocks and 3 triangles or traffic cones on the trailer.

the inspection paper work is supposed to be kept in a tube or something that is mounted on the trailer. however i keep it in the truck that pulls it.

From what I know, truck gross over 10K yes, or total gross with trailer over 10K yes~~
Mine is 9200 + trlr 3000 so I did the trailer for $129 at orlando in Walpole truck was "only" $29 as I am not comm reg and under 10K...It's a racket, especially when the egpt is 6 months old like mine...
What are you pulling??
