Hey Guys,
I am in the market for a big skid. I like the spec's on the 7810 but It is about 12k more than the bobcat. Is it worth the extra $?

I will be using it for loading scrap metal in debris boxes with a grapple and to load junk cars into my crusher. I would also like to get a scrap metal shear in the near future.

Thanks in advance
Brenden

Some here have a Mustang equivalent and could give you an idea how they like it.

If you are looking new or used, a Case 465 could work maybe?

The Gehl is a big machine. I hear reliability is not the best, resale certainly isn't good. Although it is the biggest machine in the over 3000K ROC class. I would second a look at the 465. I have had 3 of the large CASE machines and I really like them. The resale is excellent. They can be ordered with a 900 pound counter weight which puts them close to the Gehl ROC, although the Gehl would still lift higher.

I am curious if maybe a compact wheel loader would not be a good option for your application. Most of the largest compact wheel loaders are close to 10K in lift capacity. The height to hinge pin is about 136". It would very likely be more comfortable to run and offer better visibility, no small issue I imagine working in a scrap yard. They are expensive to buy new but there are many with under a 1K hours that would compete with the price tags of the larger skid steers.

If your looking at dumping cars into a crusher I would think the compact wheel loader may be better tasked for something like that. It would likely not run a shear very well, if at all (never heard of any doing that) but any skid steer over 2K ROC would run a good size shear. You would have two machines going this route but it might be better that way in this case.

I have scrap metal customers that use S300's and S330's with foam filled tires with counter weights. They love it.....What dealers do you have in town???

An articulated front end loader would be best, loading cars into crushers is best done with a loader than a skid as you are further away from the crusher and you can see so much more as you keep pressure on the car while the crusher runs.
Not to mention that a skid steer will throw you around over bumpy terrain and a loader will keep you steadier.

I have a 2109 Mustang same as 7810 over 500 hrs only problem the alternator just quit charging, very happy with the machine ,if I have to buy another machine and this one wasn't built anymore my second choice will be the 465 Case .

One of the contractors we do work for has a Gehl w/deutz engine and has had nothing but problems w/it (2 years old). I also borrowed it to move some dirt once, and i was not impressed at all. The controls are very jerky. It is one beast of a machine though!

The large machines as far as I know is a Mustang design shared by both Mustang and Gehl ,I don't know about now but they were making their separate models ,two guys that I know one has a Mustang the other is a Gehl they are both in the same op class ,the Mustang hands down a better machine all around they swap machines all the time ,not the same machines, these are 2007 year models ,Im not saying the Gehl is a bad machine ,I came to the conclusion that now days every manufacturer makes good machines, if you have any doubt look around here must of us think that we make the right decission on our purchase ,hardly ever you hear anybody complaining about their machine ,except BobcatRon when he moved over to Caterpillar

Ron I was referring to you complaining about your T190 ,other wise pretty much every body here is happy with their machines, including you.

ditto. Even with ALL the counterweights removed (except belly plate) I have plenty of lift and lots of power. In fact, I rarely need all my power unless I am running a brush mower or stump grinder. Very stable machine and very reliable. I have owned 9 G series and later K series Bobcat large frame loaders and all have been exceptionally reliable and stable for lifting.

Yes, I thought so, although the only complaint I have with the Cat now is..........the Cat yellow is hard on my old eyes when I have it all waxed up and shiny again.

The cab is nice, I like the air ride seat and the way you can move the arm rests to your liking when running the controls. They should have a back up camera in that machine because the rear visibility was horrible.

Thanks for the replys!

The reason I am going with a skid is so I can put it in a bin and haul it with my truck only (hooklift) leaving my 20 ton tag for another box or if I have to pick up anything big I leave my trailer empty.

I don't want to have to make another trip back to get a bigger loader. If It doesn't feed the crusher well then I will have to find a 3306 cat engine for my 966C loader.

I dont think it will be a problem though my crusher is a little different than most. It has a winch system built into it so all you have to do is line up the car, hook it up, and winch it through. It is like this one but it is portable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLzfeC_dUKw

Thanks

That one is a little different than mine. The one I have is powered by a ford inline six. There is a hand throttle on it so the more rpm you run the faster it goes. You are right it is slow compared to the new styles but it is payed for :)

Drove a s330 today 2 speed really zips

Thanks
