Ok so I thought id make a thread to post my pictures for this year too. No work pics yet.
I know how you guys like pics so heres some I took today around the farm. It was a nice day so I went out to ride around a little bit and see what needs to be done.
Ok well first thing I want to do is clean up our little watering hole. It used to be where all the cattle and horses would get water. There’s a natural spring that keeps it wet all year so I want to clean it up, make it a little deeper and possibly bigger.
Its not that big. About 20x20…wanna lend me the Volvo Chris?? lol

Now in the summer it will get over that and make the “V” in the field very wet as the water seeps toward the road.
View from the road. It makes it wet all the way to where the field start to go up some.

Next is our poor old barn. It has defiantly seen better days. Its pretty much beyond repairable if you ask me. Almost unsafe to even attempt to fix it. Not sure what to do with it yet. Get a excavator and knock it down or what. Id like to keep it for memories and plus it’s a reminder for people of what used to be.

The drive way is washing out too. There used to be a ditch for the water on the hill side but its kinda grew in and needs dug out so im hoping that fixes things.
The right tire lane is all washed out. The ditch is where the bucket is.

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh205/NateVpa/Picture034.jpg
And up by the barn it always stays wet. I think the water just cant get out because of a high spot in the driveway.
High spot is where bucket is.

The wall leading down the steps to my paps basement has been leaning for a few yrs but has gotten worse over winter. Its only the top 4 rows of block plus the cap that’s bad. Might try to just dig and push it back but if that doesn’t work I guess il try my hand at masonry lol. 4 rows cant be that hard right?

Also here’s a common machine around here that you guys don’t seem to like. There’s a house going in across the street and there’s 2 939’s there
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh205/NateVpa/Picture007.jpg
And for you tractor guys.
Bad pic but il get more once we get it out this spring.
1950 John Deere model MT. My Great Uncle bought it new after he got home from war and we still have it. My pap found the paper work for it and it cost like $1,900 back then. It was redone some in the 80’s but id like to make it a show tractor.

Nate........some nice shots. Don't be fooled, those 939's are a favorite of mine....4 n 1 bucket on those bad boys and they are a giant pac-man in disguise. Torn down alot of homes with those and have made many a tooth pick out of big trees.

Got to love the track loaders. We own two of them i dont konw what we would do with out them. Are those diamond manufacturing aftermarket cabs on those 939s?
NateV
02-25-2009, 08:36 PM
Im not sure about the cabs on them. I didnt go look up close. We have a 941 but id like to get a 939 someday.

I still say cat screwed up when they cam out with the 939 and got rid of the 943. We have put the two tractors side by side and our 943 will run circles around that 939. I wish they still made the 43, i could only imangine what a 943D would be like.
NateV
02-25-2009, 09:44 PM
Yeah i agree. Thats one reason i think we keep hanging on to our 41. The 39 is a nice size machine but sometimes its just a tad bit too small and something like a 41 or 43 would be perfect. Theres just too much of a gap between the 39 and 53. But honestly i wonder how many new trackloadrs they sell.
Stick Pro
02-25-2009, 09:54 PM
in some aeras they are still real popular downe here. But the problem is here everyone wants the bigger models, and now that they have the compact track loaders they are doing away with the smaller track loaders. Eventhough we still need them, because half of the time the compact track loader will not even touch the things i have to do with the 43. Pluss it is getting harder and harder to find a good operator to hire that knows how to run one.
NateV
02-25-2009, 10:01 PM
Oh i know not many people can still run them. Im only 19 and I can run one but not the geatest. I could load trucks all day with one though, when it comes to digging or grading with one thats where it gets a litte rough. I hardly have any hours on it though but im learning. We dont use it that often so when i get on it, it takes me a little bit to get my rythm down back.

All of the big companies here say the 943 was the best Trackloader ever built.
There are tons of JD 455/555 machines here as well.
953 machines are on every corner.
The old 941 machines have earned there keep as well.

We used to have a 941, that was a great machine but we traded it in on our 43. The deer 605c compares to the 943 it is the closest in specs, but i just dont know how good the deer is. I am more of a cat man.

We had the old farm house burned by the local fire company. Id like to just burn the barn but theres houses about 200ft across the road and with all that very old hay in there i dont want that flying around and landing on there roof or something. If we had a big enough machine to take it down we could push it down then we could haul it up over the hill and burn it.

Yep!! plus just moving them all the time when you go to turn around in the seat, and the stupid activation button you have to hit everytime you shut the machine off. Be back to the 4 sticks when Case comes out with the next series of letters..I guess it will be the Super "N"???

Its made by Kenco. They call it the wedgebolt coupler...Its pretty much just like it sounds..Its a wedge held in with a bolt..Its really easy how it works..I think Deere has it on there Mini excavtors now too. Or a style like that.

We have a laser and and builders level but he said he'd bring his...We couldnt find the old footer so we didnt even know what number to go off of. The part by hand is only about 20x10 and it only needs to come down about 3 inches. It looks worse in the pics.

Time to blow the dust off of this...Camera broke and when i got a new one i keep forgeting to take it with me. Havent really been that busy, I guess if you average it out over the last month or so we've been working 3 days a week, which is a hell of a lot better then not at all....
Well today was one of those days where you think it would of been better not to work at all. I was just trucking today for a concrete guy that was digging a driveway out when a few things went wrong with the truck.
First on the one load i went to open the barn door and a piece fell out off the truck and BAM!! right on the dang glad hand and busted it off..as well...Well no big deal i can still work...We fixed it tonight.

It is a pretty good/tight machine. Its a 1992 or 93 but theres only 3200 hours or so on it. He's thinking about trading it off on a Yanmar SV100. I think if the PC60 had the swing boom on it my old man would buy it.

Thats actually not a crapper. My pap calls it a "corn crib" i guess they used to put corn in there back in the day. theres still a few in there actually. We wanted to tear it down to with the barn but my pap wants it left there for memorys i guess.
The 939 is a hydro. Man the guy running it sure was a wild one. He was flying all day!

The end result of my DADS grading looks good lol. Im not good on that machine at all. i can pretty much just load trucks with it.
Those are just big rocks. We used some toward the begining when we actually had a hole to fill in but after the bulk got filled in there too hard to lose.

Well the one hole by the road was an old barn we just tore down about a month ago. Look back a page or 2 and you should see some pics of it. We just had to get the hole filled in. and the ohter low spot used to be and old garage that got tore down about 8 years ago and we filled that in some when we tore it down but never got anymore dirt till now. Basiclly we just leveled it off so we can mow it easier with the brush hog.

Ok heres todays little project. This house sits about a foot lower then the ones on either side of it. So we are just regrading it to get the water to flow. While we're there they are having there patio re-done and are there going to pour a solid footer this time so they can put a sun room on it later on, and the owner is gonna rebuild both of his walls. I was on this job most of the day by myself since dad had some other things to get done in the morning and he didnt come out to help till about 2:30 or so. Oh and boy was it hot out today. It hit 90 for the first time in about a year. Cabs with no AC suck.
I looked at the tag from the dealer inside the cab of the skid today. It was bought 8-2-02. might of been 03. i forget now, but it just turned 250 hours today.

Nope, no a/c. We took the back window out when we first bought it but it was too loud in there.
Our skid hardly ever goes out to the job. Most of the time we just use it at the shop to load up stone or something. A friend that owns a small insustral park bought my dads old 1840 which i think is around a 94 or 95 and it only gets used really to move some piles of snow around in the winter. I was in it last winter and i think there was only like 700 or so hours on it.

The home owners are going to do the wall. I don't know why they're in a hurry to get the sidewalk poured. Once thats in theres no way to get a machine up there again unless they run it over. I would of put the wall up first then we could of graded most of the yard back in order.
Bleed Green
08-18-2009, 07:23 PM
If you are pouring the concrete this way you have job security because if there are trucks and stuff going in there over that new sidewalk, I would say that concrete is not going to make it through the whole wall building process.
NateV
08-18-2009, 09:20 PM
We don't do the concrete ourselves. A concrete guy that we dig driveways out for does it.
They were going to re-use the old block but now decided to get new stones. So im guessing the only way to get them up there is a few at a time in a wheel barrow. Have fun with that lol.

You don't see that too often a rail bed there is some skill loading one of those because you have to have the machine centered properly. Then you need to block it so it sits on the rails then chain it down.
Do you guys have problems with low clearance bridges etc usually that is the only reason to use a rail bed.
NateV
09-22-2009, 04:12 PM
I didnt get to see them loading it. I just got there when they were just about ready to tie it down.
Yeah we do have a lot of bridges in the area. The trucker just got this trailer this spring. My dad was talking to him and he was saying he got this trailer because the other one he was using before was just a lowboy i guess. I dont know the real trailer terms for them but it was something about he used extenders or something on the sides and it put to much weight on the tires or something. I forget exactly what he was saying.
Gravel Rat
09-22-2009, 04:23 PM
A rail bed trailer is good for the over height stuff where you don't want to strip the machine to get it under 13'6". I watched a few machines get loaded on a rail bed I just stood back and watched. It is definatly different and takes more skill. The whole load sits on 4 or 6 blocks of wood.

We though about putting the tracks on the skidloader but i think it would have been a bigger mess using it. The side yard would of been pretty rutted up. I hauled about 20 loades today plus the 5 last night so there was a good bit back there. Plus we got the millings for free anyway.
Pulling it up with a cable everytime would have been a pain in the neck. Iv got more pics il work on loading.

I don't think you would want a truck any heavier than your single axle backing along side of the house you possible could push in the foundation.

Well little update.
We got hit with the snow storm on Feb. 5th and 6th with a little over 2 feet in some places and then another round on the 10th which luckly was only about 5 inches. We lost power for almost a week. Its been snowing almost everyday since. Nothing much just a little dusting or so. Its snowing now, saying 3-5 by tomorrow night.
This is one shopping center we haul out of. I wasnt there everynight but for a few nights they had 2 triaxles, and 4 tandems. Then over this past weekend we had 2 tandems and our single axle hauling. One more night or so and the bulk of it should be all gone. Sorry my pics arnt that great. i was playing with the camera modes trying to find the best one for night.

NateV
02-17-2010, 01:43 PM
Just wash it alot and it gets parked in the garage so that makes a huge difference too. The body has only been blasted and painted twice. Once in 2001 when my dad quit plowing with it. He used to have a spreader and plow and plow for the state but he had enough of that. So it got painted then and 2 years ago the front of the bed had some holes rusting through so we took it back to the body company and they took it off the truck and put a whole new cab protector and front of the bed on and fixed a few other places and painted it..The cab has never been touched though. Oh and they painted it with this paint thats never suposed to dull. Its like $500 bucks a gallon.
