After reading a couple of posts here about bulk mailing being a couple of hundred dollars.. I decided to look into at my local PO. I met with the post master and he informed me that the unless I was doing well over 3000 pieces that it would be cheaper to use first class mail..

To do 3000 pieces would cost me ~$1100.00  ($300+ for fees/permit and $810 in postage)

This seems a little excessive compared to some numbers here.. Needless to say I'll be delivering fliers/letters myself.

I need the exercise anyway ;)

I checked here also and it will pay if I start getting into the 5000 range and so on, otherwise pissing around with the postal workers isn't worth it. Because unless you only need stamps at the post office, you are merely a pain in the ass to the lazy counter workers. What a fricken' joke, asking for anything outside the norm is a big project for them. They act like you're bothering them to set this stuff up for you. Duh, it's your job.

So the ATTIIITUUUDe is prevelant around the country. I guess those postal incidents didn't teach anybody anything.

You need more than an advanced degree or a ton of time to understand the in's and out's of bulk mailing.

why do we use advertising?
to get more customers or to target new markets that we want to enter.

It is no use grumbling over how much it costs because if you want to grow your business you have to look at all the options

if you invest in your business and have a advertising budget i have no doubt that you will find the customers in the market that you are looking for

I use a simple well written letter, and send it to a few target customers in a neighborhood. Then if your doing a good job the rest "should" follow. If not, maybe you picked the wrong neighborhood.

You can also check with your local newspaper to have flyers inserted in with the paper..... But personally I have much better luck with just sticking my business card on doors in large neighbor hoods.
