Hi guys...

The new gas cans out there SUCK! I have some very nice older plastic ones. "Rubbermaid" and another i'm not sure of the mgf. Well over time the spouts and covers have been broken or lost. Is there anyplace to get replacement parts for a gas can? I've looked many places with no luck. I really dont want to throw these away if they can be fixed.

Thanks!

Hey man, don't ask that kinda question on here, it's a violation of Fed law to transport, ship, etc... non-conforming fuel caps, (ain't life grand), by the way, 2 gallon flush toilets from Canada into the U.S. = time in the slammer

I think I know what kind of cans you are talking about. Rubbermaid, formerly Gott, and in the end sold under the Briggs and Stratton name. Squatty cans with a NICE spout and a vent on the back. Fast flow... Yeah I have a few. Same problem, I don't know where to get spouts. The newer spouts I have found in the past don't last more than 6 months to a year and they break. The old ones lasted years.

What I did do, once the ends of my spouts had cracked or broken off, was to add a peice of vinal tubing to the stub that was left, attached it with a hose clamp, and the put a barbed fitting (3/4") that was threaded on one end and put a 3/4" threaded cap on that. Worked like a charm and even flowed better than the stock spouts. Plus I was able to make them longer for better reach.

Oh, I have probably over a dozen of the caps and threaded connectors that screw onto the cans. Also the vent caps... I knew a long time ago to start saving parts. Unfortunately the spout is what goes to crap every time.

Try ''No Spill" cans. Best thing out there right now. Keep them out of direct sunlight to reduce swelling.

Yes because by our standards that is wasteful, ours are closer to 1.3 gpf
and it may not sound right to throw folks in jail over it but we've had some
serious droughts and the forecast for 2009 isn't looking too hot either.

The new cans are probably actually good for you. All USA fuel has 10% alcohol. Alcohol absorbs moisture. Fuel goes stale more quickly now days. A closed container that helps reduce hydrocarbon emissions is in effect reducing the demand to implement more regulations.

Here's the gas can modification in question. I hope this is the same can as the ones you have. Notice how I was too lazy to pull it down off the shelf it was on to take a picture of it
