I was wondering how many people use warning lights or traffic cones while parked? I don't see to many around in my area, but personally I use both. I have a fear that some ones going to hit my trailer so I try everything so it doesn't happen.

Its better to be safe, plus I think some people see a pro at work vs trash who could care less about traffic....

Hi Guys,

I always use hazard lamps and a orange roof light since it is just the flick of a switch.

I do carry four standard size cones on the trailer and use them on many jobs but slack a bit on the roads less traveled.

What I have I hard time doing is getting the employees to wear safety vests. I know that may be a bit extreme in some people's eyes for a mowing crew, but people that miss the cones and the lights might not miss the vest.

Hey, boys
Vests are sort of the law now fore every contractor working in any right of way. Even if our donkey rears are on a mower. Got to love O.S.H.A

I recently put some LEDs on my truck. I put a Star/SVP dash light in the front windshield and 2 SoundOff LEDs on the back of the cab. They look pretty good. Haven't really had a chance to use them yet, but I'm going to. I've thought about cones, but they take up space and time to set out. The lights just take half a second to turn on and I think grab more attention since they are flashing.

we use full size cones and we leave them right at the end of the trailer so when you open it up they are right there to put them out . one at the front corner of the truck, one at the front corner of the trailer and one at the rear corner of the trailer and onrat the end of the ramp due to the fact that i had a person back up the ramp at a angle and snaped the ramp cables.

I don't use cones and don't know anybody around here either that does. I want to put hide away strobes in my next truck.

Every trailer has 3 cones on it. the law here requires that they be deployed anytime you're parked on a public street.

We obey the law and I believe it's a good thing to do anyway.

I was doing storm cleanup at a local McDonald's a few weeks ago. Was on a 16' ladder in the middle of the drive-thru island. The ladder was in the grass, but I had four 18" cones in the lane to get the cars away from the falling limbs I was going to cut. Surely enough, I had to climb down the ladder and chase down a guy in a little lowrider...all four cones were stuck under his car. Glad I didn't have my ladder stuck out there! "Oh sorry man, I guess I didn't see them". I told him to sit his seat up so he wasn't lying down while "trying" to drive. He probably thought I was an @$$.

I hate to be this way but folks who can't see my truck and trailer probably shouldn't be driving,
now I'm all for safety cones if someone's laying down a tree in the middle of a busy road, or if their
truck has to block a 35mph road and maybe right around a turn also, but just working on someone's
lawn in a residential cul-de-sac?

I feel cones are a necessary part of doing business. Too many people now-adays are multi-tasking as they drive. I use cones (18" with wide reflective tape at top) and place them at the rear corner of the trailer and the corner of the ramp. It only takes 20 secs. to place them or retrieve. Most people associate cones with a construction site and sit up and take notice. Regardless, if someone is going to destroy my trailer and its contents because they were not paying attention, I want to make sure I did all that was possible to bring their attention my presence. Cones are fairly inexpensive (even with the reflective tape) and should be considered a part of doing business. I ordered my trailer with the led package which includes the leds ontop of the fenders. A little extra effort on our part to be pro-active now will most likely pay off in hours saved in court (and lost revenue) should something happen.

Two 18" cones behind trailer at all times when parked. It looks much more professional and is more visible than nothing at all.

I know this is lawnsite, but what do you northerners do about plowing. I prefer to run my lights all the time. But there are A LOT who do nothing at all!

I use cones. I feel a little better with one near the ramp when it's down. Easier for them to tell where the ramp is from the driver's seat.

I've got my rotating light going full time. I'm also looking into a pair of LED units for each side of my Snowex salter out back. I back out of a few drives onto main roads and don't want to leave anyone enough of a reason to sue me because they didn't see me while drinking coffee and texting.
