I recently boubht a 88 f150 5.0. it has an aftermarket drop bumper on it, but the previous owner spray painted over the tow rating. I tried to use goof off to see if i could get the paint off the sticker, but couldn't. Anybody know the low end rating on these bumpers. It conects to the frame with four bolts(two on each side) and is welded at the bumper. This is probably a 4-6" drop chrome plated bumper. Thanks for any help.

The rateing's are not as high as you would think. I had one on an old F150. It only had a 3000 pull rating, with a 300Lb tounge weight rateing. I only used that old truck for the occasional towing of a ATV on a single axle trailer, so it was no problem. I would think you should have a stock aftermarket bumper installed with a real frame reciever (hitch) if you plan any real towing. Hope this helps.

I think you are always better off with a reciever hitch than towing from a bumper.

Depends on the model. Had one on my diesel that was good up to 7500

Yeah, i figured it depends on make/model of bumper. I just wanted to get a lowball estimate because I dont know the make/model. All the new ones I found on line were all around 7000# rating, but with mine only having four bolts to the frame, I found that number to be high.
