my grasshopper 28hp kubota overheated a while back and died, i got it cranked back up but it runs rough and blows oil out muffler, its very hard to get it to start, i brought it to dealer and i'm waiting for them to open it up, i hope its just the head gasket, anyone with experience have any idea what it could be or anyone with same problem before

All right here's what to do, you need two things:
1. The best case scenario.
That's what you hope for.
2. The worst case scenario.
Expect this to be the case.
And that's it, just the best and the worst all you can do until the dealer knows something.
What caused it to over heat?

something went wrong with radiator? i had it rebuilt 8 months ago b/c a new one is $1300, maybe i should have bought a new radiator
My GH 725 had a small leak. My dealer quoted me $600 for a new one. I took it to a radiator shop and had it fixed.
hi
liquid cooled overheating
Potential damage
-- cracked cylinder head
--piston rings loose tension [if not replaced oil consumption will occur]
--thermostat overheated ,replace
-- many gaskets and seals may leak in the future if not replaced [rubber hardens after being overheated
-- pistons can come into contact with cylinder walls [scuffing on piston and cylinder bore]
1/recommend all hoses be replaced and radiator be overhauled with a new radiator cap
2/Although i am not familiar with the engine fan setup [engine driven or electrical fan ]CHECK OPERATION
3/Have guage checkfor accuracy
4 / VERY IMPORTANT
FIT a Murphy engine protection shut down system [turns fuel off at a certain temp eg 212-220f ]

Usually a blown head gasket occurs when anitfreeze/water is run too low, engine will overheat, warping the head gasket, and the water will get into the cumbustion chamber, then into the oil, ect. Leads to bad stuff.
I know on my JD people have had problems with them overheating because lack of looking to see how much fluid is in the radiator. Then, when the temp light comes on it is too late, the block/head usually cracks. I think they finally redesigned it.
