Hello. I am looking at getting a new lawn roller or two and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to what might be a good investment. I don't want anything wider than 36" so it can fit through gates.

I would like to know if anyone here has or used the Home Depot SKU 100200888 lawn roller. It "seems" to be a better than average lawn roller compared to everthing else. The diameter is bigger so it can hold more water than other 36" rollers, which is a good thing.

Are there any commercial type rollers available? No commercial cutter would buy trimmers and hedge trimmers from Home Depot, because those homeowner grade tools are not able to take the commercial use. We will be using this thing for 8-10 hours a day for 3-4 weeks in the spring, so it has to be rugged for the amount of use it will see. Will the Home Depot roller be a waste of money, or is it a rugged tool to add to our arsenal?

Check it out and let us know. Just make sure it can pay for itself in 3 weeks, in case it is a disposable unit.

It will be paid off in one day/use. After that, pure profit. I just hope that it can last 3-4 weeks of use.

Is there a company that make commercial duty lawn rollers?

As far as the quality I have no idea as I have never used this before, just posting for your information.

So far I like the Ohio steel roller better than the poly roller that Home depot has. Anything steel seems better constructed than plastic. Plus, steel is not going to puncture like poly can.

Steel doesn't dent from cold air and not bounce back when filled up with water either.
Our plastic John Deere roller sucked in over winter and has never gone back to round.

I am just going to get the Ohio steel roller and give it a try. It is Made In USA, and only $190.00 shipped. I believe that any roller will last at least one year, but I am not the type of owner that wants to buy something every year. I'll try it and tell what I think of it on here as a product review.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

if you get the OHIOSTEEL one fill it with sand or dry cement as steel hits bumps in the yard sidewalks etc the steel thins out over time and small puncture holes make it diffiicult to hold water...i used water in mine but only did my own yard for years but now i have it filled partially with cement and agri-gravel weight is great but it makes it difficult for one person to move around when not towing behind a tractor...oil is also a good source of weight, if you can get enough used oil

I have the poly one from HD and it has held up better than the steel ones. The poly one also weighs a lot more full than the steel 690 compared to 400. All of the steel rollers I have had leak all the time so you need to fill with something other than water and that means it stays full and is very difficult to move around. With the poly I just fill it with water whenever I need to use it and unscrew the plug when I'm done and it's very light and easy to move around. I have rolled many lawns with it for almost 2 years and never had any problems with it. They also have a 2 year warranty.

Whatever kind you get I would suggest it be made of plastic. You wont have to worry about rust, dents or the edges leaving dents in either the new sod or when using on bare soil.

The roller overall seems to be well built, the welds are flawless, the towbar is massive, and the ends are well rounded to prevent turf damage. But the roller body isn't as thick as I hoped it would be. I was expecting that the roller would be something like 1/8" wall pipe or plate that was rolled.

I'll try to get pics tomarrow if it is dry out.
