My question is concerning the hydraulic system oil change requirment for my 2008 Hustler Z. I know it sounds dumb, but I need to be sure.

The manual says, "Change hydraulic system filter element ...after first 50 hours of tractor operation, then replace filter and oil in reservoir every 500 hours thereafter."

My specific question is simply, Is the correct interpretation of this saying to "replace the full capacity of oil in the entire hydraulic system" - or only that which fills the filter and reservoir to proper level, at this particular interval?

Lastly, Is it a fact that if synthetic oil is used then the Lubrizol is not required?

Thanks for your help.

It is meant as it reads, drain the reservoir, it drains from the bottom.
You wont be able to get every bit of oil out of the system.
And yes, if you go to Synthetic you don't use Lubrizol.

Don't you run the risk of introducing air into the hydraulic system if you drain the reservoir? I called my dealer with the exact same question about changing the hyrdo oil and filter on my 2008 Hustler Z and he told me not to drain it completely. He said to only change filter and top off reservoir to replace any that leaked out while replacing filter.

Your dealer is correct on the initial filter only change.
The annual or 500 hour change you will drain the reservoir completely.
The process is outlined in the back of the parts manual > http://www.hustlerturf.com/Web-content/Manual/manuals%20pdfs/Parts%20Manuals/108603_0908.pdf
There is a chance of air getting into the system, it can be bleed out.

PJ what is the best way to bleed the hydro's??? Also is there a extra fan that can be purchased to help them run cooler??? I have 3 super Z's and we mow a 38 acre park with bag units.

Best way... jack the mower up and run the hydros.
The Super Z already has a fan, no need to add another, and I am not aware of being able to.
