I am ordering some compost. I am having trouble figuring how many yards.

My neighbor and i have roughly the same size yards, 70'x50'. I am topdressing my yard, and beds. My size includes my beds, maybe a touch more but not too much bigger than 70'x50'.

My neighbor is completely redoing his lawn and will be tilling in the compost. I don't know which tiller he will use, bu I imagine 3" minimum depth.

What should I get? 6 yards?

Your neighbors situation is much different than yours. He needs to consider what %OM he wants in the till depth, then determine how much compost he will need to get there based on what he already has present. That simple calculator will not work for him.

For you though, it will, since all you are doing is top dressing.

to be honest hes cheap and just wants a green lawn. he was going to use loam and then pound it with scotts all year........I have tried to talk with him but it seems to be a $$$ issue. Best I could do is compost.

Soil tests are in order.

I would hate to see you guys do all that work and get crappy results.
