Help with adwords

I have a new website and want to direct as much traffic to it as possible. I want to try $50-100 month with google adwords and see what happens.

Can anyone with experience give me some advise on how to do this effectively? When I start choosing words, do I put my city name in front of them? I think I read that there is a feature that will make it so your add only pops up when someone searches from your area. Any advise would be appreciated.

I just signed up with them, i'm only doing 20 a month, since I am meeting with yellow book on monday, I wana see what they can do with my site. I have a feeling adwords isnt what we really want.

Think of as many keywords as possible and list the above three ways for each word, you can add the city name w/ each word if you want. But if you select a mile range from a city or metro area your add will pop w/ or w/o the city name.
