it is supposed to be 1/yd will cover a10ftx10ft area 2" deep. I've found this to work out pretty well. Just figure how deep you need it to be and go from there. Get a good quality mulch that has been double shredded-- it spreads much easier and no chunks to try and hide thus saving you more time.
One yard of mulch, depending on how thick you spread it, will cover: 324 square feet at 1 inch thick or 262 square feet at 2 inches thick, or 108 square feet at 3 inches thick. New beds should be at least 3 inches thick

I always mulch to a depth of 1 1/2 in. So I take the total sq ft of the area and divide by 243. Harvestman

It's easy:
1. Estimate what you think you need.
And/or
2. Measure the areas.
And/or
3. Have someone else give you their estimate.
Done...

Depends on how far you have to move it. Such as from the truck or pile to the bed. We generally figure one to three man hour per yard of mulch. Completely open bed area near the pile/truck, less than one man hour. In perennial/annual beds with a lot of hand spreading, over two hours. Don't forget to figure in clean up time.

usually 12-15 yds to 2 guys to a 8 hour day
because none of my jobs are all small flowers or all open so take the min of 12 a day and you work fast or you got power of pootang powering you then your overbid it a little bit. But then again you win some and lose some, but make win more than lose.

This is a little off the subject, but have any of you used a power wheel barrow (can't remember exactly what they are called) to get the mulch to the beds. We just got approval for a job which consists of 12 yards of topsoil, 12 yards of leaf-gro, and 10 yards of mulch. I was thinking about using a skid steer and a power wheel barrow to spread it all. The capacity of the wheelbarrow is a half a yard. What do you think.

but i have used one of those power wheel barrows and we filled it with wet concrete. It worked awesome.
i'm hoping to get a 33 yard mulching job for my HOA and i'm renting one of them things. I fiqure it into my bid.

L X W X .3 (3") divide by 27 = amount in cubic yards.
