Got a lawn and they wanted the lawn overseeded. It if full of weeds and luckily they caught me before I put down pre-emergent. So my question is do I reseed now with all the weeds or do I do pre now and reseed in fall.

Fall is the recommended time for seeding.

With that said, I haven't had too many problems with spring seedings.

If the yard is full of weeds, I would take the time to get them under control this season, then do a seeding in the fall.

I'm a newbie at doing this for other people, but I have maintained my own lawn "beautifully" for years. I think that it really depends on what the lawn will look like all this summer. Will it be a weed fest?! I am going to rejuvenate 2 -3 lawns this spring because they look soo bad now. I am the lawn watering Nazi, so they know that they better water. And we will be doing this all again this fall on a lesser basis. This is in a very exclusive area of town and they will pay to have their lawns looking nice - and I don't kill they on the price - especially on the fall reseed. Just my thoughts. Pistol

If I were doing it I would spray it with Roundup, prep it and seed it now. I tend to agree with Pistol. Most people who desire a nice lawn don't want to wait a year to get it.

The cost would be pretty steep for a renovation compared to a spray application and fertilizer. Besides, even if you did a renovation and seeding, you'll probably have more weeds come back after you've disturbed any left over weed seed, so then your back to square one.

After that you might not need to do a seeding if you get the over-all health of the lawn back in order.

I guess it's all in what the customer wants, and what the conditions call for.
