Our school is looking into buying another mower with the Z with the Shibaura engine being considered. The other mowers we are looking at have 30 hp engines verus the 25 of the Hustler. I know that it is 5 hp more but- is the 25 plenty enough power for this mower? Any pros or cons to this mower?

The 25hp on the Hustler Z Diesel is excellent, its a great engine and matches up with the deck sizes good also.
It is a nice compact package with a nice low center of gravity, it handles better than any other diesel Z.
Noise and vibration is less than others also.
Serviceability is a factor in diesel Z's, you wont find one easier to service or adjust, all the covers come off this mower with no tools in under 30 seconds.
Take a look at one up close and personal, drive it, feel it out, you will be more than satisfied.

PJ,
I know you guys are not in the used mower business, however, I see a lot of the 2005-2006 Hustler Super Z's with the CAT 34hp Diesel forsale. They are always low hour units (around 70-140hrs) for 7000-10000.00. Given the cost of these machines new 18k plus, its very tempting. I have heard stories of reliability problems with those years with the CAT diesel, but never from anyone who actually owns one. Could you tell me your thoughts on these, please. I have an 2007 and a 2008 SuperZ 60"/30hp, a diesel would just be an add on to the fleet for the commercial work I have. THanks

Once all the updates are done to those units they are generally ok.
I would buy new or newer if I was to buy anything for fleet / commercial work.
These used units do not have any warranty on them either, just a FYI.
