I've been "out of the business" for a while but still have my account here, so I thought I'd ask you guys...

Where I live, it is all sand. It's in S Texas, so it is also HOT. There is a lot of shade. Apparently Oak trees and Poison Oak have no problem growing in sand.

I have a lot of bare ground around my house and want to use ground cover to prevent erosion and to look nice. Doesn't have to be Grass - clover or something similar would be great as long as it doesn't attract Bees. I would like to be able to mow / level it. I could haul in some dirt, but I'd have to do a lot of landscaping to get the dirt to stay in place, so it would be better if I didn't have to.

I'd like to do it as cheaply as possible and it would be nice to have something that was decent in a drought. I don't mind watering, but at times I may be limited to how much I can water.

All suggestions appreciated.

Good question. I would like to know what groundcovers other than clover would be good. Not sure what is feasible in Texas or Wisconsin.

You are right about it being mowable. Especially early on when the weeds will be growing too.

There are many different kinds of decorative grasses some grow small and others get 7 feet tall most of them need little to no maintenance and should do fine in the environment
Think Corpus Cristi, what grows down there
