Hey guys I have been a member for a couple of years just lurking and i love the site! Any idea what these spots are they just appeared this spring after snow melt! I live in NH and we had a lot of snow! Are they just normal dormant spots? Will the come back? Is there something i should do?
Thanks for any advice!
Rob

Looks like snow mold. http://www.greenviewfertilizer.com/articles/snow-mold-spots-in-lawn

I wouldn't know since we rarely get snow here.

Fusarium Patch (snow mold). Aeration and dethatcing will minimize the problem. Excess Nitrogen applied in Fall contributes to the problem. Reduce shade if possible.

I run over the lawns with a blower every spring to unpack the grass blades and clean up debris. This also has the effect of allowing circulation tp the root zone. Snow mold doen't usually kill the grass, unless it's - red - I guess.

Dethatching spring time soil does more harm than good (tearing roots from loose soggy soil) and not nearly as well as a blower. Winter freeze/thaw cycle does more for aeration of the soil than any mechanical machine. Blow it, throw down some seed and leave it alone until its time to mow.

from the looks of it it is pink snow mold, rake it out ( leaf rake ) this will help to get oxygen ( increase air flow ) to the crowns of the grass. also i would lightly over seed the area. pink snow mold will actually kill the grass if untreated/ no action taken.
