View Full Version : Low maintenance plants?

We've got a landscape job estimate to give that involves removing most of the current plantings, laying weed cloth and mulching, as well as installing small low maintenance plantings.
Can anybody give me some good ideas as to low maintenance plantings? Color interspersed with green is the plan. Thanks

My "go to" list nearly always includes hostas, daylilies, and irises but don't be a chump. There are literally thousands of varieties of all of those, using the "standards" from small nurseries won't get you noticed or remembered. Larger, more mature plants are a big bonus if you can get your hands on them. There are many more low maintenace options, the three mentioned are just about foolproof and I can find a good location for them in just about any landscape.

Google for specialty nurseries for the types of plants you decide on, the variety of options should be overwhelming. I almost hate to say it but Lowes has been offering some really nice sized perennials that are far from run of the mill in my area. Bigger plants make a far more dramatic first year impression. Googling specific plants you're considering should lead you to some gardening forums with a wealth of pictures and hands-on information.
