Hey guys, does anyone have experience using tractor mounted seeders? I have done "lawn renovations" for years with good results but I have seen all kinds of seeders from gill, brillion, landpride and others and I just wanted to get some opinions on how these machines perform. Thanks!

Only used 1 seeder...and I don't see how any could work any better then the Landpride OS.
Make some great money and can cover a lot of ground quick!
NO job is too big when you have a seeder like it!
The picture in my avatar is my setup. It is a JD 3520 with a Landpride OS1548.

I've heard lots of things about these seeders and I have never used one. Thanks for the reply. I have used a pulverizer for years with good results on finishing my yards but I typically finish a lawn by broadcasting and rolling or covering lightly with soil. The landpride looks like a really good machine. I think I saw one on Ebay and that's what got me thinking about them. For some reason I always want to buy something new!

I am the same way! I always like buying new...just because I am always afraid of buying someone else's problem.
But in the case of implements...ALL parts are replacable and very little can go wrong with them (unless they have been abused). This biggest thing on a seeder is the gearbox.
I bought my seeder used as I could tell it was in very good shape and had been used very little.
I like the LP because it is a heavy machine (physically), built like a tank and it is a all in one tool.
I have since ran it over about 80+ acres in the last 4 seasons and all I have had to do is replace the knives (becasue I DESTROYED them on a rocky job and they were getting worn anyway).
Don't be scared of a good used machine as you should be able to save 4 or 5 grand!
PM me or let me know if you have any questions as seeding is one of our specialities!
I would rather seed then anything else in this business!

Wolf,
Per your request via PM....here is a pic of my setup. I already posted it in a thread so I just posted the thread because it won't let me reuse the pic.
If you need more close-ups of the machine...let me know and I can get them for you.

RCreech, I am in the market for that same setup you have. You have a 3000 series John Deere, I was actually looking at a 2320 or a 2520 do you think it would be able to handle a 48" seeder like yours? The tractors are 2320 24HP and the 2520 is 26HP. I need a small tractor because I use an 18ft enclosed trailer so it would have to fit in it. Thanks.
you can't go wrong with the landpride setup. I bought mine at an auction and saved quite a bit of money. I know what you mean about buying new, usually trucks tractors skids and mowers I'll buy new , implements are another story you can pick them up at a good price often.

Let me save you a ton of GRIEF!
That model is going to be way too small.
I started out with a Kubota B3030 and it is actually a little bigger then the 2000 series Deere and it was too small.
Tail always wagger the dog...and now my Deere shows the seeder who is the boss!
You need a little larger tractor for the Landpride.
If you go with the Befco....the smaller tractors may work, but it is also a very light seeder IMO.

Thanks R Creech. That is what I was wanting to know. Now I just wonder if a 3000 series deere will fit in my trailer if it has foldable rops. It will hold the weight its just getting it in the back door. Thanks again.

No problem!
Here is another friendly reminder!
We build a trailer specifically for my seeding outfit and we SCREWED UP!
Remember that Landpride unit is OFFSET and is actually wider then you think!
Trailer still works really well...but if I would have been thinking ahead we could have made the trailer slightly wider!

I have one of these Toro Aeroseed 93
http://www.toro.com/golf/cultivation/seed/aeroseed/93.html
and a 6 foot one of these brillion seeders
http://www.brillionfarmeq.com/productpdf/LandscapeSeeders.pdf
and 3 different versions of these aeravators
http://www.1stproducts.com/
2 of these 3720 John Deeres
http://www.deere.com/en_US/ProductCatalog/GC/servlet/com.deere.u90785.cce.productcatalog.view.servlets.ProdCatProduct?pNbr=682DLV&tM=GC
I can seed more area in more types of conditions with less labor and in less time. Each
has their niche. I wouldn't trade any of them. The Tractor is the key. I really has power and comfort to spare.
Good Luck with your choice.

That is almost a $120,000 worth seeding equipment! :cool2:

Just curuios as I use my Landpride for ANYTHING!

I love the aeravator, and I have looked at the Brillion seeder as well. Thanks for the advice. My business is about 70% lawn renovation, 20% install, and maybe 10% mowing. I would love to continue to grow the seeding end as I make great profit on that side of my business. Thanks..

I will try to get some pics. Might be a while as I am not really doing the seeding thing yet. Give me a week or so. As for how much equipment I have. I am a small operation and cover lots of ground in a small amount of time. Just myself and on full time guy. We have a very efficient routine and it seems to work for us. I will do what I can to get the pics on. thanks guys
