I'm new to the industry and have seen a lot about fliers. I havent passed out many of them yet so I cant say my theory is correct but do you think it matters what type of fliers they are?

Ive seen guys saying on here that they pass out 2000 and get like 2 accounts and that fliers arent worth it.

All I know is people who have seen mine say they like them and comment on the ones left at their house being black and white and cheasey looking. So does this mean I have a better chance?
Mine are 4x6 postcard glossy.
I'm not knocking anyone, I am just wondering what you guys think?

I have to think that the biggest component to how well your fliers work is the area that you hand them out in. If you just target high-end residential areas you can imagine how many other fliers those people receive on a weekly business. You'd really have to have a sharp flier to grab their attention since they're constantly being barraged with fliers. I know if I get junk mail the same type week after week I stop looking through them before too long.

Now if you hand out fliers in a low-end residential area then I imagine you'd get a lot of calls because they're not going to be getting as many fliers since they're not "the big daddy" of lawn care clients.

Your flier is simple and it works. If you feel it represents the image you want to put out about your company leave it alone. You can't be the one to make your target look at it or pick up the phone. You can only adjust the times you hand out the fliers to make your flier noticeable.

Oh and I am starting out as well this year but I do not plan on handing out fliers until mid summer when the heat really kicks up in my area. With the economy I am hearing about a lot of people going back to mowing their own yards but I hope that when the heat cranks up they'll be weary of mowing it on their own again. Hopefully by then the economy will be going in a more positive motion.

Flyers are all about how professional they are, eye catching and the area that you put them. If you print out black and white flyers on white paper, you probably won't get much response, but if you put them on colored paper or print them in color they will be much more catching to the customer. But everyone has something that works for them, not everyone has good luck with fliers.

I have sent out two different flyers, and getting mostly calls for landscaping problems (one a flyer, the other a postcard - both full 4 color printing). Lawncare, has not really started here yet (Texas) - for the week in and week out mowing. Once that has started, I'll do one targeted to that.

Tyler above makes a good point. Although I target the better neighborhoods, I imagine that get a tremendous amount of stuff in the mail. I know that I'm considering a 'step down' and a very targeted flyer for lawn mowing and maintenance, in several weeks.

The most important thing about lawn flyers (imo) is time of year. You should hit these people BEFORE they are signed up with someone else.

I guess I should add that flyers do MUCH better when they have prices on them.

That is a nice looking flier.
But nowadays its tough getting work from fliers, people are a little more hesitant with their money. A lot of it has to do with timing & location also. If have the nicest flier in the world and go into an area where nobody knows who you are it will be tough to get work. Some people will always go with a company thats been around.

I did 10,000+ full color fliers in the newspaper one year, had a snow storm the next day and got like 2 calls from it. All the money I wasted on that. Thats why timing means a lot.

thanks for all the replies guys. The colors didnt come out right when I uploaded to make it jpeg. The green is more of a bright green(lime) and a charcoal grey.

That's brutal, 2 calls. and full colour yet. I only do 2 colour and design them myself but I always do better.

I usually put out 10k flyers for clean ups and I get a hundred jobs and at least twice that again in phone calls. Even with ugly flyers (one colour black).. one thing is, I always put prices on them.

I actually had someone phone me and book from a flyer type that I distributed two years ago. Certain people will keep flyers, that's the advantage they have over news paper ads, but I still do both.

We got like a foot and a half of snow the day after they went out.
I think there might be one posted here some where.
