I read on the Briggs & Stratton website that you could test the resistance of ignition coil by hooking up an ohmmeter test lead to spark plug terminal. My question is, with a multimeter would this work for testing the amps? Has anyone tried this?

If you want to test an ignition coil on a briggs. Leave it installed simply remove the ground wire from coil. Turn unit over if still no fire, the coil will need to be replaced.

I have used ohm meter to measure resistance of a coil. I think you would be looking to see if it is open.

The easy way to test if a coil is bad is to hook up a good one.
If you don't have one, go buy one.
If that doesn't turn out to be the problem, you have a spare coil.
And if that puzzles you, just wait until you understand the real reasons behind brand loyalty LOL
