Hello, me and my other friend have been cutting some lawns for about 2 years so we made some business cards and since we made them people know us by "5 Star Landscaping" but im now 17 and soon will be getting my license and buy a pick or a small dump. Also i would like to letter the truck and make it a legal company and with a truck i can offer other service's but my sis works for a company and makes adds and advertising so she tells me that isn't a good name. Any thoughts?

Ask her specifically why it isn't a good name. There may be some kind of science behind it. Since she works for an Ad company she may be able to point out what you would want in a name for better advertising.

I don't see anything wrong with it except for the fact that someone can come along as 6 Star Landscaping and now you're second best.

Good Luck!

A name that people can remember is all you need. If it is your business dont let others make decisions for you. You can get advice from them but at the end of the day you have to make the decision.

6 star means nothing, but everyone knows 5 star. Five star restaurant, five star hotel, this movie got 4 out of 5 stars. etc etc etc. This is why it works, if someone goes 6 stars they will look like a dick. In Canada, you could very easily get a cease and desist for a name like that because if you registered yours first and they are in the same industry, there would be no contest. You own it. Not sure how it is in the US of A That's why you can't name your business McGonalds

HITCHHIKER: A salesman -- that's what I am. I mean, I'm gonna be anyway. I'm starting my own company -- video sales -- just as soon as I get enough seed money.

TED: 'That right? Good for you.

HITCHHIKER: Yeah, you wouldn't believe my idea -- it's a home run. You ever hear of Eight-Minute Abs?

TED: The exercise tape? Sure, I've seen it on TV.

HITCHHIKER: Two million copies it sold last year. Two million, man. But not next year--my idea's gonna blow them outta the water. Get this: (dramatic pause) Seven-Minute Abs.

Well when I hear the word landscaping I don't think of mowing. I would think 5 star lawn care (or service) would be a better name if all your doing is mowing.

legal company = number company though a lawyer...up here in CND...it cost about $1000. then you are incorporated....you must do a name search first to see if some one owns the name. Good luck!

5 Star Landscape Management would also work well!

This name would make it possible to add other services in the future above and beyond just lawn maintenance.

That name is okay. It's not really personal though, but if that's the name you want, it's your business.
