well it finally happened when I was out with the z-spray today. I had a customer from last year said she doesn't want service because she doesn't like chemicals "their not good for the environment". I said ok, and she says I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition and the internet said it was due to chemicals. I said ok, she says be careful! I started to explain but very fast realized nah, I better get to work.

Dave:
That will continue to occur you can either sit their and explain to them the steps you take to be safe or you can work with them to an agreeable solution.

I agree with her, you guys are causing cancer and killing dogs all the time. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

You are correct sir. To Quote Slow Dog "I prefer to watch Eagles flying over the Hudson River while planes land on the Hudson River."

I'm not killing dogs ALL the time, only killed 3 all day yesterday.
Seriously, the things people think. Daveyo, in such situations, just save your breath, you did the right thing.
People regularly come into contact with much harsher chemicals than what we generally use, solvents, disinfectants, fuel, cigarettes.
I have had 2 people come up to me, cigarette dangling in their mouth and ask me if my spray caused cancer.:hammerhead:

Yeah I thought about going green but what would the police say when there's a tapped keg on the trailer.

I have a customer ( very sweet) who is so deathly afraid that the chemicals are going to kill her dogs that it is like pulling teeth to do anything in her backyard. Recently the dogs got stomach parasites and it had to be from something I did. It is hard to convince some folks.
LawnTamer, I apologize, 3 dogs a day is within acceptable limits.

Thats hilarious, I thankfully seldom wonder whats going through some peoples heads. I knew it was going to happen though, people seeing me on my Z-spray for the first time wondering what the heck is he doing? I saw some guy walking his dog about 50 yards from me giving me the head turn. I turned around, filpped the switch for the gun and sprayed his dog , ok I went on to the next house and finished my route.

Have you ever looked into someones eyes, and literally noticed their posture, the conviction that is there. Sometimes you just have to wash your hands and say ok.
It's amazing how many things can go through your mind in an instant. I thought about everything you stated and said "ok".
I think we all have had that one before. I love it!
Here's one:
Had someone the other day not complaining about what we spray, but that the posting sign we left after each visit seems very wasteful and unnecessary from and environmental standpoint. He felt like he was tossing them into the trash all the time with no real benefit to anyone involved..........What?:hammerhead: He's got a monster house, two large suv's, sports car.
What else you guys and gals get???

Here is my take on this. If she already has thyroid problems, lawn applications will not make it worse. Many of the commonly used pesticides have been implicated as factors in cases of endocrine(thyroid, adrenal, ovary, testicular) damage. Once one of those glands malfunctions, they are done, there is no going back. The politically correct like to preach that going vegetarian and living an extreme organic lifestyle will magically fix the problem. I know, I am adrenal insufficient, hypothyroid and a few others. In my case it was something I was born with. The politically correct remedies did nothing for me and in fact, aggravated certain symptoms of the hormonal deficiencies. Your customer was probably born with a thyroid that would eventually malfunction and having a politically correct lawn does not affect this one way or another. You are right to graciously bow out and run far away from this one. A rational person would stop looking for external factors to blame and start demanding the correct treatment for the problem.
You cannot compete with the all knowing internet, it is never wrong. You did the right thing and saved your breath.
The all knowing internet also gave me the knowledge to directly treat my problems. It seems that doctors and big Pharma like to blame signs of endocrine problems on depression or they like to cover up symptoms with pills. Replacing missing hormones is cheap, and extends both quantity and quality of life. I cannot say the same about the 100 different antidepressants and ED pills being pushed.
