Hello everybody. I'm looking for some info on how to get licensed to spray here in Phoenix. I quickly looked through the "sticky" thread at the top of this forum but couldn't find anything. I have a landscaping business here and I've come accross a pretty good opportunity to do weed control so I figured a license would be my first step. Can anyone help?

I am a qualifying party licensed to spray herbicides in Arizona. It has been several years since I became a QP and some things may have changed.

You should be a licensed spray technician first. After that, you can apply to become a license holder or QP. To become a QP, you must be recommended by another license holder to even apply and then pass the QP test. You can hire an existing QP for your company until you become one. But, they or you can only be the license holder (QP) for one company at a time. So, keep that in mind.

You may want to start by calling the Dept. of Pest Mgmt at 602-255-3664. Also, Metro Institute provides spray tech classes to prepare you for the test. I don't know if they provide classes for QP testing. When I tested, you had to learn all the information on your own. Metro Institute can be reached at 602-452-2900.

Keep in mind that to even be considered for a license as a spray technician in Arizona, you must complete the application, include a copy of your birth certificiate or current passport, and send in a certified fingerprint sheet and agree to a background check. And, that's to just get approved to test for the spray tech test.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks guys, that's some good info. I actually came accross the Dept. of Pest Management's website today and gave them a call. He said they would accept my 10 years of landscaping as proof of being in the "industry". I guess that'll cover the 3000 hours needed. Not sure what kind of proof they're going to need. I don't have an hour log of my work. We'll see I guess. ArizPestWeed, I'll keep you in mind if I need to go that route. Thanks for the offer. I was starting to wonder if were are any Zonies on this website. Glad you guys found me.

Keep in mind when dealing with the Dept of Pest Mgmt, you must do whatever they ask exactly as they want, whatever information they want must be provided exactly as requested, and by the date requested. They can pretty much do whatever they want and I have found them to be difficult to deal with at times.

Good luck!

AND
They will change the rules when they want , this is one reason they are no longer SPCC , among many more reasons
You may need proof from a couple of long time customers
as to your experience .
