Wow...I was working on a landscape job when a big rig Trugreen truck stopped next door. I sat and watched in awe as a hefty gentleman got of out of the truck and started to spray with tennis shoes, short sleeve shirt, no glasses, and just latex gloves. Do these big companies not have safety protocol?

Not so much as safety but for personal reasons. Who wants wet feet from spraying all day ? Glasses never worn them. As for gloves I see guys dragging and rolling up the hose bare handed ,you know how much dog crap is on that hose/:dizzy:

This really surprise me because TG/CL has very strict hiring practise. While not a formal test but rather the personnel manager's evaluation, All employees are required to consume oxygen.

All ServiceMaster companies are a joke. They are nothing but liars and thieves. Oh wait that sounds like Congress!

Hate to break the news, but Servicemaster nolonger owns TruGreen.

"Strict hiring + no formal test"??? How do you know? Do you work for TruGreen? I think not -- especially cuz major changes have occurred since Service Master sold. But maybe you know better? BTW -- next time, try "spell check" :hammerhead: Now I don't feel so bad cuz you badmouth ALL successful businesses.

SS Shirts, no "glasses" "latex goves" = no prob either IMO. It's the tennis shoes I find a prob with, but that ain't the applicators' fault. Also keep in mind that some Americans are overweight, yet they try their hardest to earn a paycheck. Personally, I respect that.

It's so easy to make blanket statements with no personal knowledge. My 2 cents.

Hate to break the news to you but Service Masters does own Truegreen. Get your facts straight before you open your mouth. Oh and btw...you ever read a label? The label is the law regardless of what you do or don't have a problem with it. Read one when you spray a herbicide maybe you'll learn something. Goes to show without the minimum PPE they aren't spraying anything or the applicator just doesn't give damn. Guess that makes it safe for you. I lived in Memphis..met a lot of Trugreen employees. I know what goes on.

Maybe I am too cautious but I would rather limit my exposure by always wearing a long sleeve and long gloves with high rubber boots. I always have glasses on b/c A) it's sunny outside and B) don't want any drift to get in my eyes. I have hand sani and wipes I carry that I wipe my face and hands with. I wear latex gloves under my rubber gloves and put new ones on each lawn.

The shoes is what really killed me. I could easily see the green in them from the dye. You cannot deny that he is soaking up that chemical through his feet. Extremely dumb...

Last year I saw some idiots spraying round-up around trees on a median, with shorts, sleeveless shirt, and flip flops. So much for reading the label. I know it gets hot out there, but use a little common sense.

The guy that sprays across the street has been spraying ever since I dropped the customer and she has not found anyone else and he just keep on spraying.
Her grass is almost knee deep in some spots but he just keeps on spraying away.

Great company.

Common sense read the label and do what its says simple. Not sure about the hefty comment, I'm fat and do 30 to 35 lawns a day with no problem. Working on my weight but we all have vises I'm sure you do.

Have a nice Day.

I'm sure the fat guy part wasn't intended to upset anyone - although I would have to agree, I'm not sure what relevance that had with the usage of PPE.

He was probably spraying straight urea. That is what they are using around here right now. If that's the case, he could have been out there in his speedos. Ugh! THAT takes the thrill out of the term "bikini lawn care"!

If he was spraying straight fertilizer there would be no label so nothing to follow. If he was spraying a herbicide he should have long sleeves, long pants, waterproof shoe covers, waterproof gloves and a hat. I just looked up ServiceMaster, they still own TruGreen.

Do you wear full protective clothing when you spread fertilizer? I bet that was all he was doing.., What you should have done is go out to him and ask him. This way you would not be speculating and you could have reported him if he was in violation.

Servicemaster owns trugreen, at least that is the name on the checks they sent out. (no I don't work for them)

In March 2007, Service Master accepted a $5.5 billion offer from New York based Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

Saw a pest control guy today spraying with a spot sprayer inside plus outside perimeter. No gloves, no glasses, but he wore a jacket cuz it was 28 degrees outside. This is a big outfit, and we use them for our home as well. Will I turn 'em in? Never. We never turn ANYBODY in. That's how we roll. My 2 cents worth

Sorry but Service Master dumped TG/CL and they are now owned by an other holding company. Oops Larry beat me to it. From what I observe in my area both TG/CL and True Care Land care are going down the tubes. True Care Land care lost out in my area about 5 years ago after making a one year big splash and low balling all the bigger properties. They didn't last long because their work was crap. But before they went they manage to put a couple of guys out of business by stealing work REAL cheap. They are still in the Naples area but won't come to my area because they have blown it here.

Funny but I got a letter from TG/CL today. It was addressed to my old Nursery Landscape install business that went out of business after Hurricane Charlie blew away the nursery. At my age I didn't want to take an other 10 years building the inventory back up. Now anyone who knows me, should know I had to call them just for fun. The Pitch was all the Landscape Business they could get me. The sales manager claimed to have worked for TG/CL for 15 years and didn't know his from a hole in the ground. Of course I messed with his mind and kept him on the phone for over an hour with my Blue Tooth while I sprayed. Maybe tonight when he lays down in bed it might hit him like a ton bricks that he was had.

ServiceMaster still owns trugreen. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice did not aquire trugreen from serviceMaster. They aquired all of servicemaster, and it is still named as servicemaster.

Today I ask the not so sharp sales manager who owned TG/CL now that Service Master was out of the picture and he said it was the hold company. Now granted my source was not reliable since he was only a sales manager of TG/CL.

True Green Treats there guys like crap. They have high turn over and they bug the piss out of ex-customers; not mention current customers.
them guys have to spray aprox 40+lawns a day to make there route. (spraying 200+ lawns per week to make a $450. weekly pay check. which I think they pay bi weekly too boot.

Yeah,...here's where I got it...I know this is a two year old acquisition, but I bet this is still Servicemaster (after all, we know how well educated they keep their "managers" lol). They still have servicemaster on their website and all their literature, and I think this is just one of the many corporations this holding company owns. Either way,...they're still the "burger chef" of lawncare. lol

You mean the Buger Chef of lawn care.

Yes it does seem to be the census of opinion that TG/CL has untrained salesman who promise Disneyland and untrained techs who deliver Kiddyland. However the American Public are so use to being lied to they except SOS if the price is right.

As of 2009, TruGreen/ChemLawn (here) is now called TruGreen. There was talk about removing the "Chem" name many years ago in the 80's. Their thoughts at that time were to eliminate the "chem" in order to minimize the chemical aspect toward customers.

Their initial intention was to call it "AmeriCare". ChemLawn Corp even bought out the trade name from a national chain of child care locations to make it so. But this never happened. Not sure why, cuz this would have been a great name. ChemLawn's "AmeriCare" actually existed, but it was in regard to their carpet cleaning division. Two of us actually flew into Columbus, OH & drove back two 2 new carpet cleaning vans to Dallas, Texas. (one of us got laid in Coumbus that night, but it wasn't me....to make it worse - he bragged about a shaved (you know what)

I have more "original ChemLawn" info for sure, but I think this satisfies this thread. Example: "Poseidon" --their irrigation division. Stanley Steamer and much more. :usflag:

But I always wear my gloves and safety glasses. You have to think safety first.

If you had to wear all of the ppe for every label, you'd die in August. 95-100 deg temps with 100% humidity? Don't worry- you'll gain back those 10 pounds come Winter, if you survive.
