How do I get rid of clovers; Its a killer to cut and when it dies its all brown. I prolly have aobut 1/3 -1/2 of an acre of it.

Just hire a professional lawn service to spray them.

Ya I agree with Southern spray guy if you don't know you might want to have somebody else do it. I guarantee my results so do most professionals.

Good idea; but I live in a very small community, very rural; I dont know anyone I trust or closer than 20 miles; but I'll look into it.

Jixxxer,
Go to Lowe's and look for the spectricide products that contain Carfentrazone combined with their 3-way weed killer's. Follow the label completely! Read that label completely for the grass types that you can overspray........... The homeowner will benefit somewhat, but if it is a proablem that is beyone your comfortable threshhold, then as everyone else has stated.............get a pro nearby to explain what to do.
Be safe!

I believe that Spectracide Weed Stop contains sulfentrazone.
Having lots of clover usually signals poor soil fertility. Work on properly mowing, watering, and fertilizing your lawn this summer and your winter weed problems will be dramatically reduced. LSU has some good publications that you might want to check out at lsuagcenter.com

If you can aquire the chemical get confront it smokes the clover. Clover is a sign of low nitrogen. So in the future either fertilize more or put more nitrogen out, but not to much.

What grass do you have? Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede or St. Augustine.

hmartin,
OMGoodness, thanks for catching that chemical error! Carfentrazone, Sulfentrazone they swish around in my head so much.
poster,
The best time to combat clover is in the fall with premerge. But if you are too late then Sulfentrazone will work as the Spectricide products are available to the homeowner in smaller containers. I looked last night at Wal-Mart even and the products was around 30.00 for 1.25 gallons. Read that label though!!!!!!!!!

A high mowing height and well fertilized lawn are the best preventatives for clover. I plant it because deer like it.

I am guessing that in Louisiana they are talking about "Oxsalis" and not your White Clover of cool season areas. Of course I could be wrong. Oxsalis and Beggar Weed seem to be a problem for DIY homeowners in my area because standard Weed & Feed doesn't control them.

get a cow. its organic and you can eat it when the clover is gone. try doing that with a bottle of three way.
edit: no really DONT try doing that with a bottle of three way, seriously

Ric,
We do have plenty of white clover here in south Louisiana, although we have plenty of Oxsalis also. In the past, had problems controlling Oxsalis, but now having great control with Manor.

Yea I know its not recommended for it but people who have access to it use it, like my self. I spot sprayed last year and wiped out all the broadleafs, it works wonders

Scotts weed and Feed and pretty much any other weed and feed for that matter will kill everything in that lawn to some extent except the St. Augustine. Provided it's a St Augustine safe W&F
For DIY'ers, Weed Stop from Lowes works good on clover.

2-4 d works great on oxalis in southern bermuda and st. augustine lawns. it's too hot to be spraying that where you live right now, get a pro, it's more cost effective.
