Spin off thread from "The process of greening up"
in a few weeks you'll know what came up since rye is a clump grass. why do people sell seed with 50-50 rye to ken. blue? i don't understand this, it doesn't make any sense.
You do realize that you have now got me crazy with what was sold to me last fall. As a "better and cost effective" alternative to picking up straight KBG.
Last fall, I went into my local JD/Lesco and told them I was planning on aerating and over seeding. I inquired about KBG and they suggested a "better and cost effective" seed would be a 50/50 blend as technically, I'm getting more KBG seeds per pound then that of Rye.
What does everyone suggest as the "Highest Quality" seed to over seed in the fall for a North/Central New Jersey property?
I have a thick, dense, mainly weed free lawn, and have been told that it's a mix between KBG/RYE/FES. I can make it much better though over time. (I'll be posting some pics this weekend of some "ugly" spots (different species of grass, maybe POA?) That I'd like to resolve fall of '09.
I aerated and over seeded last fall (Sept 15) with about 1 1/2# / 1000 of this 50/50 mixture which was a 4 seed blend... of which I can't recall names off hand but it was 2 Rye / 2 KBG at a 25% rate of each. I watered for a full month to insure proper germination of the KBG.
So this fall, I plan on a more thorough aeration job (2 passes, rather than then 1) and over seed with what "name" of KBG and at what rate?
A quick Google search suggest something like "Midnight KBG"
Assume cost is not an issue.
