Let's Discuss What to do with early Spring Care Itch

It's beautiful today,a lot of us are thinking what can we do to our yard now; and what should we do a little later?

I don't relate well to zip codes., but here in cool season grasses, country, the first thing I do is blow all the misc. debris. This opens up the surface to expose any untidy areas. Throw down some seed if necessary and wait for the first mowing.

No fertilizer until late spring which in this area is after the 4th or 5th weekly mowing. Pre-m if needed after the spring germination of the good grasses. I have never used pre-m and have overcome large areas of crab grass with only overseeding spring AND fall.

There is always a lot of naysayers to this approach, because the big money starts, with the 1st Pre-m/Fert application. I grow lawns and do cleanups so I don't have that conflict of interest.

The only thing I cannot say, is whether this strategy works in regions with little or no frozen ground for the winter.
