I'd like to hear the experiences from those who went from mowing to mostly or totally chemical apps. Please be as detailed as possible.
I don't want to give up mowing completely I just feel like it is harder to profit with the business model that requires so many pieces of equipment (truck, trailer, trimmer, edger, multiple mowers, hedge trimmers, etc as opposed to a tank sprayer, truck and broadcaster. Educate me please

It's also harder to gain and retain customers that Tru-Green and Scotts will almost do for free just to saturate a neighborhood (even though your results may be better)

I am doing that every thing. unless you have extra money to spend on a marketing blitz, this is a slow process. Im hoping in time I will feel confortable releasing my mowing; I will have a good employee to give them too. I would like to go to all spraying, but mowing makes good cash per week vs every 6 to 8 week service per customer. which means you need 6 to 8 times more customers base.

I plan to do both. Everybody wants a one stop shop now-Wal mart and Home Depot. If you do it right, one phase can compliment the other. Also, you don't have to worry about a sub contractor screwing things up for you.

I hate landscaping and everything that went with it, so I now love what I do. The hard part for me is growth in a downturn and that It is hard for me to sell a job when scotts comes in at half of what I charge.
