View Full Version : Un-Employement sucks

No I haven't lost my job but some of my friends that got laid off are now facing the fact the un-employment insurance is running out. The contractors they work for don't have any work yet and no work out there yet. Their only choice now is try to apply for welfare.

My point to this is you think being a equipment operator would be a good career choice. Not looking that way your un-employeed and run the risk of claiming bankruptsy.

I don't know what these guys are going to do many of them are seeing the un-employment checks running out. No sign of work for them yet its not improving at all. Going onto welfare isn't that great you don't get much money and its embarrasing to say you have to collect welfare.

I have said this before I made the right choice I may not enjoy the job I have but I'am so glad I got out of the construction industry I would rather be working than being un-employeed.

Sometimes you just got too be 'creative', it sucks but do what you must. That is one thing in this industry you have to sort of plan for, it is a big part here because we are seasonal. Just try to encourage them if you can.:)

What stuvecorp said......I had a whole thing written, but he summed it up nicely.

Cheers

With the construction it is a little seasonal but it is still a 12 month of the year employment or it used to be.

The other jobs that used to be available when construction was slow are not around anymore.

I sure hope things pick up or the B.C. gov't needs to extend the un-employment checks for these guys that are still jobless.

Right on. I am doing jobs that I would not have done a few months back and using machinery in a way that I haven't before. When people want crap hauled off, as long as it isn't asbestos or chemicals, I am hauling it, sorting it, and disposing of it. More labor, less money but it supplements work in this short term downturn.

GR, tell your friends to band together and brainstorm. There has to be work for the upcoming Olympics.. No man should have to turn to welfare. I know it must be hard to swallow. I hope I am never in that position. Hopefully things will turn around soon..

This pass winter while I was off I painted two houses (inside) and laid about 900 sq feet of laminate flooring, renovated a bathroom, Insulated an attic.
I did what I had to do kept my ear to the ground and bugged the hell out of my friends for work.

I hope these guys don't have to go on welfare but its almost looking that way with very little money being spent.

I know things are slow but after hearing people are claiming personal bankruptsy and having troubles making ends meet its not good news.

A restaurant owner I know says business is down 50% from last year and years previous. Even with the school spring break the area was quiet no regular tourist around etc.

Wish the d*mn gov't would do something to get things going again. Maybe when the welfare line tripples in size the gov't might realize there is a problem.

For myself I'am luckier than a pig in crap that I have a job. People thought things would be improving by now and there would be some signs that people may have jobs again. I'am guessing people are still leary about spending any money.

With no good signs that the american economy is improving yet especailly when you see on the news all this stimulus money isn't doing anything.

The 2010 Olympics in B.C. isn't going to do anything its a big waste of money in my opinion the gov't is just sinking the province so deep into debt it will take 30 years to pay it back.

Since when did it become the governments job to keep your friends working? Extending unemployment? That is only going to drive the government farther into debt. Tell your friends to get off there butts and do something get a job, 2, or 3 if they have to. I will die before I will EVER consider welfare unemployment is bad enough.

Well this newfound attitude of yours is a change from your last 5 threads. Nice work....sometimes all it takes is a change in perspective. :dancing:

Life is good again!

Yeah, they are just doing that to remind you BC socialist nut cases what an NDP government would do to your province if you let them in again.....and again......and again.....

We need a woman in charge here, Carole James to be more precise, I like her, she's always good and pissed off about what's going down in the Government now.

That Gordon Campbell is a slimey ***tard. He would make a good used car salesman he could lie to your face and not even flinch.

Nobody in B.C. knows what the 2010 Olypics is going to cost the tax payer. All for what 3 weeks of a event a average person can't join in because its too expensive.

As for the jobs there is none right now the only money to be made is in illegal crops. Not much else going on. Even trying to get a job as a stock boy in a grocery store is next to impossible to get.
