Ok heres the deal I went to the hustler dealer today to get a price on a new Hustler Super Z 6" deck and 28 hp EFI engine. Here's the break down $10,799 for the mower, $2,999 for the dump from the seat bagging unit and $169 for the adapter kit for the bagger after taxes and everything my total comes to $14,944.69. That sound a couple thousand high to me. I have no problem the somebody making money but it seems as though these are just strait up list prices, primarly the price of the bagging unit. Any suggestions on how much leway I have in barganing? I've had both John Deeres and Toros in the past but really like the Hustler after demoing one last fall but deere and toro seemed to shoot me a lot better prices.

Here is the MSRP for what you have priced.

Super Z, 28HP Kohler EFI / 72" XR-7, SUSP seat. part # 928036 $13,199
BAC-VAC Assembly part # 928218 $2,999
BAC-VAC Kit, 72" XR-7 Deck Adapter Part # 107144 $244

Total MSRP before tax is $16,442.00

I am assuming you meant 6' (72" deck)

If not the 60" MSRP is as follows.

Super Z, 28HP Kohler EFI / 60" XR-7, SUSP seat. Part # 928010 $12,829
BAC-VAC Assembly part # 928218 $2,999
BAC-VAC Kit, 60" XR-7 Deck Adapter part # 107128 $169

Total MSRP before tax is $15,997.00

Either way your getting a good discount off MSRP on the mower itself, the Bac-Vac pricing I am assuming includes assemble and installation.

Pj, Hustler is hurting themselves on their pricing in this economy. Chad is one of the better Hustler dealers in the country, and he told me a couple of weeks ago he had sold over 100 Bobcats, 45 or more Bad Boys and only 30 Hustlers. This says to me something is wrong, it is also taking place with Scag and Exmark as well. I wonder why the constant price increases in this bad economy, if the truth be known there should not have been a price increase since 07 with this economy.

This is definitely working on lowering sells, while Bad Boy is running away with the market. I talked with them last week, and they were building 10,000 units for Tractor Supply and told me they could not keep up they were selling mowers so fast. Kudos to a company with foresight!

Bad Boy doesn't offer retail financing, good dealer flooring options, and their warranties on their mowers are only 1 yr-

Not much Bad Boy here in the upper midwest----except in TSC

10,000 units means over 10 per store (they have 900 or so stores). Up here I've been to two TCS and they both had last years single unit (they only got one each) discounted and not sold. It really must be a regional thing or some numbers are not right. It also means that there is going to be 10,000 units with no true dealer support (unless down south TCS repairs equipment also).

Hey Pj whats the big difference pro's and con's of the Clam shell bagger and the the bagger systme my main concern being how easy it is to take the 3 bagger off as I switch from side discharge to bagging frequently. I have seen the clam shell set up work and know it is easy to take off and put back on but my local dealer hasn't sold enough of the 3 bagger units to know how we'll they come off and on. Please any advice or help would be awsome.

The pros of the 3 bag system is that you can dump into a truck or container.
It is easy to take off, but it is a little heavy, it can be done with one person, but 2 makes it much easier.
The advantage of the clam shell set up is that you can dump from the seat quickly and it comes off with just one person very easily.

Along those lines are an MSRP of $1,299.00 for an M1. Basically a fancy push mower. I can't think they'll sell many of those at those prices.

The M-1 is selling very nicely and they have only been available for a few weeks.
It is priced in line with or lower than the similar mower made by eXmark / Toro / Honda.

I asked PJ the same question, and suggested that Hustler should seriously consider redesigning the hook-up of the 3-bagger to the deck, simplifying it for ease of removal and re-connection on the run.

Drivefaster35--

Who is the dealer you are working with?

BTW, our M-1 is designed for guys who want a mower that will stand up to commercial conditions. You know how it is....buy poorly made products, and they tend to break down often and cost you money.

The 3 bagger is a very easy on and off, no tools needed.
The catcher you can I were talking about is a 2 bagger set up and has a different blower also and is only on the FasTrak or FasTrak SD series.

I ran MTD's 5hp B&S for a couple seasons each before the transmissions would go...but at $350 each TOPS at Sam's....I could afford to buy a half dozen of them or more, then Craigslist the motors left over...and yet still be miles ahead.

Did you use them commercially at least a couple hours a day? 5 days a week?

Yes we did.

I am glad they worked out for you, unfortunately that would not work out for everyone, thus the reason for having a top end quality commercial 21" unit.

Thanks PJ - You are right, we did discuss the 2-bagger, sorry about that. I've decided to get the FasTrac SD, with the 2-bagger, I hope it too can be removed easily with no tools. Thanks.

Yah, one of our larger customers does something similar. I think they go even cheaper. Basically the cheapest push only MTD's you can find. Not sure what they sell for but they buy alot of wheels and adjusters from us for them.

Basically it comes down to being just as easy to bend a crankshaft on a $100 mower as it is to do on a $1000 mower. You can toss the cheap one when they do it....while the pricey one is gonna take a price engine to fix that little misshap.
