I'm not sure if this is a weed or bermuda or, something else. Can anyone identify what this is?

No, this looks like a cool season grass. Bermuda would be finer bladed and have a different seed head.

It was dormant during the winter and just started vigoriously sprouting up in clumps. I'll see what some cool season grasses look like when they first come up. Any chance this is a weed?

I believe I've figured out what it is. It is growing in clumps and that is one of the characteristics of annual bluegrass.

Looks like annual bluegrass. Although it could be kentucky bluegrass. From what I gather annual bluegrass is a weed and kentucky is not.

It is annual bluegrass. I am battling it on the new sod I had laid last year. Only ways I know to defeat it are; pull it (weed hound works good), round up (non selective herbicide), and keep your grass healthy. This stuff spreads fast so kill it, pull it, and reseed.

Honestly I'm leaning towards just letting it burn out. Spraying it now will more than likely damage my bermuda which is coming out of dormancy.

if you kill it now, your Bermuda will overtake it by summer

Image will take it out or severely weaken it to the point it will not seed. I used Image on my newly laid sod (Sept 2006, put Image down in Spring of 2007)and it came out of dormancy just fine. Just mix according to instructions and don't over do it and you will be fine.

Your other option is to just leave it and as soon as it heats up it will be gone. Apply a Pre-M around September and again around Feb/March and you should prevent most of it, and other spring weeds next year.

I actually might have some Image in my shed. A former coworker of mine used to work for Chemlawn or someone like that and he gave me a ton of stuff. I'm pretty sure Image was one thing he gave me. I'm definately going to do a Pre-M next fall. I regret not doing that. I'm learning slowly about lawn care. A year ago I knew nothing. I don't know alot but I do know alot more than I did due to this site and other resources.

I have ground ivy and quite a bit of poa annua that I'm trying to get rid of. I've also got another weed I can't identify in my front lawn. I had quite a bit of henbit and wild onion and I've got pretty much all of that killed.

Henbit is the worst weed ever...I think its the toughest to kill and you cant pull it out either. My neighbors lawn is all Henbit and Wild Onion/Garlic.

My backyard was full of it. I've got it under control now. I've just got to identify what this weed is in my front yard now. My neighbors that don't take care of their lawns have lawns just like your neighbors'. The purple drives me nuts.

Yes henbit in my neighbors lawn bugs the crap out of me...also if its in my clients yards as well because most will not do anything about it...they simply don't care.

That weed in the picture is Poa annua for sure...I am 100% positive. I am also 100% positive it will die as soon as we get some warmer weather. so you can chose to get rid of it now, or wait and be sure to get some Pre-M down in the fall and again in the spring to control it next year.
