I have this McCulloch, Mac 3200 chain saw. It's very hard starting after it runs awhile. I rebuilt the carb, changed spark plug, cleaned air filter, new fuel (proper mix, 40 to 1). I've heard Mac saws have this inherent problem. Any suggestions or am I just destined to deal w/ it? P.S. I also vented the gas cap ( drilled small hole) to see if that would help, NG. Thanks in advance, Barry.
Mines still out in the bush since 2004 somewhere..major headache those pickings!
Great deal of wasted heartbeats trying to catch a successful combustion stroke as the sweatbeads pour on down.Get a real man's saw please,Husky,Stihl,echo..

Thanks SLR for your "not so unexpected" reply. I just wanted to let you know I have 2 older Stihl's, a 034 & a 009. I'm working on the 034 now, piston rings seized, (failure to change air filter, dirt migrated into cyl. jug). Received the Mac 3200 from a friend, couldn't get it started! (maybe he found this one, yours, in the weeds.) Thanks again, have a good day:waving:

if you'll do a search on here you'll find a thread that is now a few years old where people (including myself) talk about the Mac they have that has this same problem. I have done everything you have described and it still has this problem. So i say just get another one...
When mine actually did run,it would run very decent UNTIL the first tank of gas
(20mins) was empty. After filling tank to start another session,it was a whole nother beast. My Mc's was such a unpleasant expeirence, only good for one thing, taking aprart and showing your son how an engine works.

I don't know how old it is, but if it has a coil it might be going out. I had a Stihl arbor saw that I sold. It ran like a top, but I could not get it started after it was hot. I did a lot of labor work on it myself, but didn't think or replacing the coil so I bought a new saw. Guy told me a new coil it is just fine. When you get it running after it is hot. Try cranking, if it wont go, take the plug out and see if it is getting fire. Good luck
Too it could even be a plugged exhaust port and or screen.I think the total working hrs my Mc had from day1 of being brand new, to being left bush bound
was a total of 20hours!My poor pounding heart after all that $199!

That's cheap for a good saw, but considering a mcculloch.... that is a different story
I got so ripped on it.I really was in need of any saw at the time so i consol myself in the fact it was worthy. But after close to 100hrs with my Husky55 for $400,it's literally a giant step from a Tonka toy.

My father in law gave me his little yellow headache. He used it once, next time it wouldn't start. Brought to the shop got it running, drained the gas etc. Next time he went to use it, it would start. Ended up giving it to me. I cleaned the carb and it ran great. Then it wouldn't run again. Replaced the fuel lines and it ran great. Now the cork gaskets around the oil cap are shot so it leaks oil from there. Theres a gas leak too somewhere if I leave it full of fuel. Glad I didn't spend money on this saw. Since it runs, I got it as a backup, just can't store any fluids in it and its not worth the time to fix the leaks. This saw has been worked on more than its run
