Figured i'd post up a thread. Won't be updated as much as others because I never have my camera, most of these are from my cell phone. Everything is still dirty, I just got it out of the shed and got the season started...

Cemetery setup. The new holland and white ford belong to the township, I have 100% use over them for cemetery work through my contracts. Picture from rolling the cemetery today.

few pics from last fall. Ill try to keep a camera with me this year because I really can't find any pictures on my computer.

Last season was our first big year trying to slow down mowing and get more into landscapes. We have also been doing some small concrete jobs this spring, nothin big, just projects to keep money flowin.

davis45

Should have a big landscape project coming up soon, if all goes well I will try to get some pics.

Looking at a dump similar to this if spring goes well.

The township wanted to take out some dead ole trees, about 5 of them. So they brought the equipment out today and we got them down this morning. Check out the stump/roots in the second picture!

First cut on new customer. Done with the 48" fastrack, residential mower with no stripe kit. Not too bad.

04-19-2009, 09:43 PM
I figured this thread would get a bit more attention.

Ended up sending out 3k postcards this winter, return rate was pitiful but we got enough business so far to cover expenses.

Do you ever run the 60" and 72" on the same day? Stripes are very nice!

Yea. The 72" is for cemetery's only due to the rear discharge. I will use it in the stone areas and have someone on the 60" doing open areas. Thanks

davis45
05-19-2009, 09:08 PM
I really like those Hustlers. Which is your favorite and which one is most often used?

The 60" is the one used most often and the favorite. I love the resi fastrack on the smaller lawns, leaves a great cut, but I've had that about a year and a half and it only has 150 hours I think.

davis45
05-26-2009, 01:58 PM
Would like to sell the 60 and 48 if anyone is interested. Check out the Classifieds, looking to get a 52" with bagger.

davis45
06-24-2009, 12:27 AM
Ah, had the studs break off on the rear wheel of the 72" today. Now I still have 10 acres of cemeteries to do with the 60".

Customer insisted on red mulch, about 2 yards, I have never used red before, the supply yard doesnt even sell any! So I had to go to flippin Home Depot and get it in BAGS! :dizzy: :dizzy: Oh well, I told them it would increase the cost. I just dont understand why people think it looks better than your regular hardwood mulch.

I love the looks of red mulch myself. Put down 52 cubic ft of it yesterday.

It looks cheap and amateur. Only place I have ever seen where it looks good is on southern style homes down in Texas, Louisiana and such.

You may want to back away from the DLC moniker as it has been taken. Here is a link http://www.dlcresources.com/dlc-resources/index.htm the picture is not a factory or dealership its all their's. The picture rotates like a slide show but only if you catch the link at different times.

Its across the metro area, so if I need parts I'd sit in traffic for an hour. :hammerhead:

Why did you stop using him?

Ah, I see.

He was expensive as heck. Didn't let me demo new mowers. If my mowers break down, im on the waiting list, usually 2-3 weeks. I dunno about you guys but as much money as I spend there every year I expect to get some service.

Why I dont use landscape fabric with mulch. Took 3 guys to rip this fabric up, roots grew right through it into the ground. Gotta go back and finish it up and lay some sod.

I dont want to start a new thread so i'll just continue this one.

Starting a flagstone patio and walk way in the next week or two hopefully.

Wish it was pavers since I have much more expierence in those but he wanted flagstone. Will also be landscaping the home a little bit after the walkway.

First picture is the house, will have a small 15x6 patio. second picture is the middle, will be a 4ft wide walk with a step in the middle (slight elevation change), last pic is the garage which will have a very small area about 10x4 along the side. Hopefully the walk will enter through the trees but I need to get out there and check it out some more.

Sucks. This is my last year and i'm givin them up.

Actually I'm hoping this is my last year at all in this location. Savin up a bunch and i'm HOPING to start over down in St. Louis next spring. Focusing more on landscaping and less mowing, if at all.

Couple from today.

First is a good size apartment complex. 2 buildings with 6 units each.

2nd is an assisted living home. Thin grass, weeds, doesnt stripe well but looks ok. Pic is about 1/5 of it, takes an hour to mow and an hour to trim, lots of sidewalks.

Threw some stacks on the diesel!

I know there are alot of city boys on here and alot that dont like stacks, please just ignore it if you dont like them. I know there are some who do like them and would like to see pics. I myself, am straight outta the country, so this is a little along my lines.

Amity landscapes? We pass you guys pretty often, I like your setup! Are you out of Arthur?

Yep Amity Landscapes. Yeah we are from Arthur. Well more like between Arthur and Lovington. Thats good to know yeah our setup isnt bad.

Man that sucks. why do you want to move out of this area?

davis45
09-08-2010, 12:31 AM
Thanks Kajun!

Amity, Im not too sure really, just dont like it here lately. I would like to start up another landscape buis with less on the lawncare side. But, I want to be in a more metro area(nicer homes and subdivisions). Most of our work is in Sullivan, Lovington, Bethany, and Cerro Gordo. I got out of Decatur this year because it is just swamped with Lawn boys. Scrubs and very well respected business men also. So that just leaves all the smaller rural towns.

I LOVE that style dodge, there's an LCO around here that drives basically the same truck, it's got some nice rims on it too. They look stock they're so nice but if you know what they're supposed to have then you can tell.

davis45

Takin small steps to get out of the lawn game and into other things. Been doin some field tile jobs, which pay great!! This is a rental i've had.

Plan on buyin a Kubota Mini ex and a bobcat skid before spring time, seems like i'm gaining more work from this than the Lawn care, so i'm willing to go for it.

I am now a sub for the township to take care of the Cemeteries, we came to an agreement to use their equipment/fuel etc. and to work on an hourly wage. My equip is only used for backup on those now, it works out great really. We only do them one time in the spring before we start mowing.

Correct, Sir.

They are Dick Cepek DC-2, Junior!

Build scaffold systems, pipe fitting and welding for a contractor through ADM. It's a secure job and I absolutely love it there.
