Found over in the irrigation forum... tools for helping to pinpoint drill exit hole locations through walls (planning before you drill) while locating obstacles like pipe and wires.
Post anything similar you know about.

I know from experience a 2" drywall screw will find the incoming 220v line from a meter and will trip the outside breaker about as fast as you can say chit! The screw was going in and stopped, I pushed harder and it still would not go, I gave it one last nudge and all the lights of the building I was working on went off.
We all have had that idiot moment where we did something and right when you do it you realize that it was a mistake and you cant take it back. Lucky for me on this project I caused no permanent damage to the wire or the circuit.
This was not a low voltage lighting job.

I think we need to rememeber drilling saftey and basics first here. While there will be accidents alot of them can be avoided with a good visual inspection.
When drilling on utility walls such as near panels and power meeters use extreme caution
No substitute for a good visual inspection. Look for signs of electrical, gas, plumbing, hvac, central vac etc. If in doubt inspect further or consult with a qualified party.
When drilling thru exterior walls your holes should be slanted slightly so the outside of the hole is a tad lower than the inside..
Wires going thru walls should be in conduit and per code always.
Always seal your holes to prevent moisture damage to the structure.
Always ensure you have a proper drip loop outside or other suitable means for water run off so that it does not ride the conduit or cable inside.
All these fancy toys are great but there is no substitute for common sence.
