The diesel deere is an incredible mower ! It's amazing on fuel, only need to cut at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle in heavy tall grass. Yes, gotta to dust em off, wash and wax give them the pre season check over .

I've been told that mowers are designed to be run at full throttle all the time. My dealer warned me about damage to the hydro pumps. Also at half throttle your blade tip speed would be half so you couldn't mow as fast, in addition I'd think cut quality would be lacking. Good looking mowers!

I've never seen anyone who doesn't mow at full throttle

Yes , I agree with reduced throttle, blade tip speed is reduced as well as ground speed, In heavy, tall grass with the 997 you can reduce engine rpm and still maintain quality cut with excellent chute discharge. Updated picture, all ready for grass but has now snowing.

Looks like you have a 1st gen Billy Goat Force blower. How do you like it? Have you had housing problems with it?

Billy goat is one of the best back savers ! On Tuesday I had the BR600 on for about 5 hours, Wed morning it was all i could do to get out of bed ! Bought the billy goat Wed. afternoon , worked all day friday with it .... no back ache. And a lot more clean up done. No housing problems yet.. what should i be looking for ?

Run that 997 at full throttle for maximum cooling. The pto driveshaft has a cooling fan mounted to it, which helps keep the gear box cool and also the pumps will not cool as good at lower throttle. My 997 runs at full throttle all the time while cutting, no reason not too. Yes, you can get a good cut at even at lower throttle speeds but the cooling effect is critical for longer life.

You are going to tear up your mower trying to save a few dollars in fuel! Those mowers are designed to run at full throttle! My 2 cents

Yes very crucial for running mowers at full RPM's. Even though your throttle is wide open, you still have alot of throttle left. These mowers are not running as fast as they could go when coming from the factory settings. They are barely running at half throttle to begin with. Just grab the governer on the motor and youll see that running at full tilt is not really full tilt!!!
