I just saw this add-in for Google Maps:

http://maps.google.com/gadgets/directory?synd=mpl&backlink=http%3A%2F%2Fmaps.google.com%2Fmaps%2Fmm%3Fie%3DUTF8%26hl%3Den%26ll%3D37.0625%2C-95.677068%26spn%3D44.658568%2C77.695313%26z%3D4&url=http%3A%2F%2Fmikebrewer.co.uk%2Ffiles%2Farea_distance.xml

It allows you to calculate an area using Google Maps.

I thought it might be useful for some of you pros doing estimates.

I have no affiliation with the author of this product. I'm just a geek with a big lawn. ;)

Have you ever looked at the live search maps on msn...I know its not exactly the same thing but they are pretty good at getting a first hand look at something before you drive to it.

I take an aerial view from Google earth, and scale it out in autocad. Do this for everything except apartment complexes. Anything over an acre I use it for as well.

I can measure out a 10 acre site within 20 minutes, when it would have taken me a half day with a measuring wheel.
