I have been getting alot of resod jobs, and I have been bidding them at .50 a square ft for Floratam St. Augustine. That is removing with the sod cutter and replacing with new and hauling old. I think this is a fair price as my price for sod alone is 115 a pallet that is 400 square ft.

If you're happy with the profit why do you care? Just asking cause I sure wouldn't do it for that.

so you remove/prep/install the sod for $85.00 a pallet? $200 bucks per pallet, that is too cheap, but hey lots of guys do it that cheap.
We price sod @ $1.00 sf from tear out to installation, with a 1 pallet minimum. Around here the st aug pallets are 500sf and go for $125.00.....

I personally put in a pallet this week and the net was around $300. That included getting old grass out and hauled away, picking up the pallet of sod and instlling it. And used Walker to roll it in per se....ran tires over it until I got it pressed down. We don';t do this for a living because our price of $300 is high for our area.

The crazy thing is no one has called back and kind of look at me funny when I price the job like it way to expensive. I placed a bid on 4900 square ft of sod remove and replace and 230 square ft of pine bark which I calculated to be 70 cubic ft. I quoted him 2450 and would have the job done in a week.

I think they haven't called back or looked at you funny because that price is WAY cheap.
Lets see, at 4900sqft you would have approximately 12.25 pallets at $115= $1408.75 for the sod at YOUR cost. Now we subtract that $1408.75 from your $2450.00 quote which leaves you only $1041.25 Divide that by the WEEK it will take you to cut the old sod out $1041.25/40hrs= $26.03 per hour. Now subtract whatever the cost of the bark is and you'll be under $20 an hour. What are going to use to cut the sod out? Will you have to rent a sod cutter? More taken out. What about your common business expenses? Even MORE taken out. You've now just about broke even on the job and essentially are working for free!
To do the job and make ANY profit, you should be at least double what you quoted. It's a wonder they aren't looking at you funny wondering why your doing it so cheap but hey, if you want to work for free, I need someone to do my mowing while I more then likely have back surgery and try to recover.

If it takes 40 hours to remove 4900 square ft of sod you have problems

I charge $.30 SF for new install, an hourly price for grading and trucking.
On tear out/replace. Its priced the same way. But we add topsoil, labor to the total cost.
I make my money off the tear out.
Around here, if there is a sod problem there is usually some sort of problem with the soil the sod is growing in. So we soil test (For a fee) then go from there.
