The crew that cuts the yard at my control tower uses this 72" Dixie Chopper with two engines. I finally got the around to snaping some pics. I'm not sure what size engines it has, but they look to be fairly large Kaws. Its hard to see both engines in the pics but they are side by side. Not to familar with Dixie. Looked at thier website but didn't see this model. Sorry about the picture quality but I took with camera phone. This thing is a monster.

Here's the engines, hard to see the other one but they are identical, side by side and looks to share the same air filter.

Pretty sure Dixi also R&D'd a jet powered mower at one time, that thing would be sweet, wind up the engine, then wind up the blades :)

I remember seeing one at the Dixi dealer by us a few years back. Wouldnt want to have to fill up twice a day.

Okay, I see now. The one pictured is the one engine configuration and you can order it with two twin kohlers. They use the crap out of this thing. They cut an Air Force base and they cut alot of grass, were talking hundreds and hundreds of acres, but they've got alot of ztrs. Toro, Dixie, John Deere They've got some nice John Deere tractors with huge shredders. I've seen them use the crane with mower attachemnt on ditches, that thing can take down small trees (i'm not sure what its called, but next time I see them doing it, i'll try and take some video). I'm not sure what the contract is worth, but its got to be a pretty penny. They maintain a runway thats 2 miles long and 300 feet wide. The airfield alone is about 4 miles by 3 miles and thats just a drop in the bucket.

Dixie Chopper used to call that beast the Suburban Turbin. I guess they had to change the name with the crazy gas prices.

thats sweet

I dont like putting fuel in one engine, let alone 2!!

suburban turbine. remember that one, seems to me i remember my buddy had one and loved it. that was and still is a great highpowered machine. but i am sure the gas usage would be quite high to todays standards

there is one for sale down here in florida on Craigslist. I think the guy wants like $6000 for it, it has around 1,000 hours. It has twin 20hp engines.

One engine dies, you have a second one. Also two 20hp air cooled engines are still cheaper than one diesel, but not better. We all know the negatives, two come to thought quicky for me!!!!!! the heat coming off those two air cooled engines, and the synchronized engine noise could drive you crazy.
