I am new to the business. I was just wondering what everyone offers when you go out on a weekly or bi-weekly lawn mowing job? I mow, trim, edge & blow. Is that the standard? Also do ya'll charge people extra to edge concrete that has never been done before or do you just do it anyway? I done one this week on a regular weekly service and it took over an hour to get all of the crap cleaned up. I think something like that should be an extra charge. Any suggestions would be helpful. By the way most of my weekly jobs range from $35-$70.:hammerhead:

I'm not sure how grasses up north grow and requirements of edging but down south edging is always part of service.
What type of grass are you cutting in MS? If you are starting new customers and there is excesss overgrowth you should be charging more for the initial cleanout.
My service includes mow, trim, edge blow and hedges/ palm tree trimming and bed weed control.

Basic service is mow, trim, edge and blow. I edge every visit. You may need to charge more for the first visit if its over grown after that it takes no time to run the edger along the drive and sidewalk. I also offer shrub trimming, mulch, straw and bed maintenance, these would be extra.

Remember that if something is overgrown or in dire need of attention, this should be brought to the attention of the owner if it will take a lot of additional time. This way any additional fee can be approved. Customers do not like suprises on their bills. You have to have a understanding with them.

this is the way i do it..
there are 3 types of edging...
establishing an edge... ..this is the new customer that hasn't had it edged in years, and has a significant amount of overgrowth like 1/4 inch or more.. this i most definitely charge for...as it can be a demanding job..
spring edge.. this is for my customers that i have been cutting the previous years, so the edge is there but it just needs to be cleaned up,, i walk it with the stick edger.. this i don't charge for.. takes me a couple minutes
weekly edging... every time i mow...i just use the string trimmer to keep it in check while im trimming the rest of the yard.. this is no charge as well

We do the same. You can keep the edge maintained by running the trimmer at perpendicular to turf and 90 degrees.

I appoligize i mis understood the original post. By saying that edging is always extra, i meant actual edging with an edger. The edging you are reffering to is done every cut with a stick trimmer...

I would consider each customer differently. For a good customer that is loyal to you or one you think will be loyal to you, I would tell them we charge $5 or $10 (depending on the length of the driveway) for edging and that if you would like us to do this for you each time we mow to keep it looking great, we will do the first major clean up for no extra charge. For others, charge each job according to what the work entails.
