Removing Pulleys

What kind of puller do I need for the spindles on my Ferris ZTR? Is an ordinary automotive gear puller okay to use, or is there a special one made for lawn/garden equipment?

In the past, I've beaten them with a hammer, and just replaced the pulley, but I don't want to damage this one.

Technically they should come right off thou I suppose some...
What I mean is, check to be sure that any clips and what have you are not still holding it in place.

Beyond that, I use a Universal puller but you need to be real careful because those dang pulleys are made
of either steel or some alloy... Put to much into it and it either bends, or breaks, requiring replacement.
