Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what my issues could be.

07 everride Hornet 23hp Kawasaki. Engine sounds dry when trying to start but will start fine, also the engine goes through spurts where I have to mow at 1/4 choke to keep it from bogging down, but then will clear up and have to unchoke to run right.

85 toro walkbehing 15 hp Kohler command. starts no problem but if I take the throttle past about 1/4 way it sounds as if the motor is going to blow. At 1/4 throttle it cuts good has plenty of speed, I am wondering why it is allowing the motor to rev so high. I do not have a tach for it but I know if I let it run WOT it would blow the engine.

Any help would be appreciated, just trying to keep a nuisance from becoming a really bad day

okay on the hornet its prolly because u need to clean the carbs..try spraying carb/chocke cleaner on the carbs while u are runnign it. this will cause it to bog down when u are spraying the cleaner momentarily but once its clean it'll run good. Or it could be a spark plug, but its more likely the carbs. its happened to my kubota, actuallt right now im running at 1/4 chocke...i need to look at it again beforethe season starts for me

Didn't mention this before but I have sprayed it down with amsoil power foam a few times over the past few months and have also tried sea foam both in the tank and directly into the carb. Also changed plugs when the problem started and hasn't changed anything. The mower has about 450 hours on it, I have run amsoil in it since day one and changed oil every 45-55 hrs. I have not pulled the carb completely apart and soaked it yet.

Have you tried a new fuel filter?

You can not clean the Carburetor by spaying anything in the Intake Vortex, all your cleaning is the Intake Vortex. You have to remove the Carb. and take it apart to clean the jets inside, which are probably gummed up from leaving the gas sit in there over the winter. And you need to use Carburetor, Choke and Throttle body cleaner, not fuel tank additive.

fuel filter gets changed every 50 hours, fuel gets run dry when the mower gets put away for the winter. Carb has been pulled apart 3 times, sprayed out and soaked overnight in carb cleaner (dealer did it the 3rd time). Problem still persist intermitently. The carb being gummed up has been my thoughts on it all along but if it is I cannot get it to pass completely or I keep picking up trash shortly after getting it cleared out. I worked on cranes and bucket trucks (hydraulics) for 8 years, 5 before I started this 3 part time as the business grew. Any one have any suggestions on the toro? Just don't want one of my helpers to set the idle too high and blow it up. I've talked to my dealer and thier recomendation on that was to buy a new engine, lol.

#1 sounds like fuel starvation
#2 sound like the governor is not working

Since I am rained out I am going to look at the governor today I went out last night around midnight and checked and after choking it does not move until I get it back to the position it normally runs normal at. the spring has no slack in it but I'mm gonna see if I can figure what is loose/missing/ whatever.

For number 1, im just wondering what you mean by "it sounds dry"
For number 2, to adjust a governor, loosen the clamp on the governor arm, hold everything in the fast position and tighten it down.

hard to explain but its just sounds like alot of friction taking place. not a grind but not normal turning over. It goes back and forth from turning over normal and the "dry" sound.

I will try the governor this weekend, with the rain these past few days right now all I have time to do is try to catch up. I am thinking the governor is broken internally because when I checked it out yesterday there was alot of play where the shaft goes into the block
