I never really was thinking about this, But what is the avg time a good electric clutch should last? In hours , I mean.

I've been told by several people that the life span of an electrical clutch varies a great deal due to height and thickness of grass you are mowing as well wheather or not you service the clutch and try to maintain the correct air gap. I'm only on my 2nd mower with an electric clutch and it has not been replaced in at least 1200 hours. My first mower with an electric clutch lasted only 390 hours before the bearings locked up.

I cant ever remember replacing one on a Bobcat walkbehind. However I have replaced large numbers of them on Wright Standers and a few on Bobcat Riders as well as other larger machines.

It really varies as to how the clutch is treated. Do you engage at half throttle and then rev up to full RPM gradually? Do you idle down before disengaging the clutch? If belt tension is controlled manually(not spring loaded), is it correct? Do you use the machine like a bush hog or as the finish mower it was intended to be?

We ..... start at 3/4 throttle to start. then at shut down we pull the plug. No thottle down then pull the plug. The clutch what I was told need's current to hold the clutch in lock. If you run it or start it less then that your burning out the clutch.
