Ok so I have a shindiawa trimmer that is DEAD, i have just been using it as parts when I need them. But I want to see if I can just rebuild the motor to get it working again.
I think that the main problem is the carb. but possibly the motor too. Can someone help me with rebuilding this.

I know Echo sells "Re-power" kits for all their engines, some with short blocks, some with just gaskets and seals, Contact Shindi and see if they sell re-power kits. This would b the easiest way.

why spend $100 to $150 to rebuild when you can buy a new one for $250-$300?

I completely agree. I use to race radio controlled cars for years. When I first started racing, I bought a good engine. It gave me problems and needed some parts to straighten it out. $200 later I had it running good. Then the carb started acting up, another $80. By the time I was done, I could have bought 2 engines! The original cost was $210. By the time I junked it, I had $300+ in it! I would have been better off buying a new one and keeping the old one for parts.
In your case, it might just need a carb kit. Or the muffler may need to be cleaned out. Chances are, it will be easier to just buy a new trimmer and save the old one for any parts that may be good still.
with the costs of these things, you can't afford to work on them unless your really bored.

If you want to do it it is really pretty easy to do, First go to Shindiawa.com and down load the exploded parts diagram for the model you have. You can basically look at that and see what to do. 2 cycle engines are pretty simple machines. You open 'er up and look for any damage like scored cylinder walls and stuff like that. The Carb. rebuild is simple also, just take it apart, setting everything down in the order it comes off, then put your new diaphragms and stuff in the same way. You probably will have to match parts out of the kit, as 1 kit services more than 1 type Carb., you know what I mean ? Go to the Library and get a book on 2 cycle engines. I think you have a good idea, as you will get a good understanding of your engines from doing this. Can't hurt anything.

Just take off the carb, take it apart and clean it, and put it back on and see if it will work. I just did that to a old (1963-1973 I don't know for sure)toro reel lawnmower I got for free if I could fix it. It shouldn't take you more than an hour and a half to complete( I didn't use any new parts). Whats the harm in trying?
